The search for Nancy Guthrie has crossed international borders after a startling anonymous tip triggered a new operation in Mexico.
Volunteers with a local search collective launched an urgent effort after receiving information claiming the missing mother of “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie had been buried near the Arizona-Mexico border.
While initial searches did not uncover evidence of Nancy’s whereabouts, investigators and volunteers continue pursuing leads as the months-long mystery surrounding her disappearance remains unsolved.
Nancy Guthrie Tip Leads Volunteers To Border Search Area

A volunteer search operation was launched this week after members of the Buscando Corazones collective received information regarding Nancy Guthrie’s possible location.
According to local outlet El Imparcial, the tip was received on Wednesday and claimed that the missing 84-year-old’s grave could be located in an area known as Mariposa near the Mexico-Arizona border.
Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, who leads the Nogales-based search group, said the anonymous source alleged that Nancy had been buried in one of the streams running through the region.
The area immediately drew attention because Buscando Corazones has a history of locating hidden burial sites.
Reports indicate the organization has previously discovered more than 25 unmarked graves in the surrounding area.
Acting on the information, volunteers quickly mobilized and began searching locations identified by the tipster.
Nancy Search Comes Up Empty, But Efforts Continue
Despite the urgency surrounding the new lead, the initial search failed to locate Nancy Guthrie.
Ortiz said volunteers thoroughly examined the area provided by the anonymous source but did not uncover any evidence connected to the missing woman.
A federal law enforcement source also confirmed the disappointing outcome. According to them, the location was checked, and Nancy was not found.
Even so, the search team has not completely abandoned the lead. Members of the collective indicated they plan to continue searching the region, both for Nancy and for other missing individuals whose families are still awaiting answers.
Meanwhile, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged reports about the search effort but said Mexican authorities had not contacted them directly regarding the operation.
“The investigation remains active and ongoing, and we will continue to follow up on credible information,” the agency said per the Daily Mail.
Nancy Guthrie’s Family Continues Living Through The Nightmare
Nancy has not been seen since the early hours of February 1, when authorities believe she was abducted from her home outside Tucson.
The disappearance has devastated her family, particularly her daughter, Savannah Guthrie.
While the television personality has since returned to her duties on NBC’s “Today,” she recently shared the emotional toll the ordeal continues to take on her.
“I cry every morning on the way to work,” Savannah tearfully told her “Today” colleague Jenna Bush Hager.
Her mother was last seen after spending time with family during a game night at her daughter Annie’s home.
Since then, loved ones have spent months searching for answers while continuing to appeal for information that could help solve the mystery.
Nancy Investigation Continues To Generate New Evidence

Authorities have uncovered several pieces of evidence since the case began, though none have led investigators to Nancy Guthrie or identified a suspect.
One of the most significant developments came in early April when FBI agents reportedly discovered what was described as “potentially critical” DNA evidence inside Nancy’s home.
The samples were reportedly sent to a private laboratory in Florida for analysis. Among the items undergoing testing are pieces of hair recovered from the property.
Investigators have also examined blood droplets discovered on Nancy’s front porch, a torn-down doorbell camera, gloves found near the scene, and surveillance footage showing a masked individual outside the residence.
The footage allegedly captured the person tampering with the missing woman’s doorbell camera before removing it entirely.
At the same time, authorities have spent months analyzing a series of ransom and blackmail messages sent to both the Guthrie family and media outlets.
The messages demanded payment in Bitcoin in exchange for Nancy’s return. However, the family requested proof that Nancy was alive and never received it.
Nancy Guthrie Case Remains Active As Questions Persist

The investigation currently involves approximately two dozen FBI agents and Pima County investigators who continue working leads across multiple jurisdictions.
Despite months of effort, only a handful of individuals have been questioned, and no arrests have been made.
Questions also remain regarding communication between investigators and Nancy’s loved ones.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos recently revealed that he no longer communicates directly with the Guthrie family.
“I personally am not,” Nanos said when asked whether he remains in direct contact.
Instead, communication now flows through detectives and federal investigators. “If they need the family for anything, they get in touch with them and the family,” Nanos explained, adding, “It works both ways.”
