Julie and Todd Chrisley remain adamant that they should never have spent time in prison.

The reality TV couple has reportedly thrown their former legal representative under the bus, accusing him of failing to secure their freedom in court.

Julie and Todd Chrisley received a combined sentence of 19 years for bank fraud and tax evasion in 2022. They reported to their respective federal prisons at the start of 2023 and were eventually pardoned by Donald Trump in May 2025.

According to a complaint filed on June 5, Todd and Julie are suing their former lawyer, Chris Anulewicz, and the law firm Balch & Bingham. The couple filed their grievances in the Northern District of Georgia’s Atlanta Division, accusing Anulewicz of making “a catastrophic, unforced error” in their case.

Todd and Julie argued that their freedom could have been secured if Anulewicz had done his job properly. They accused him of failing to call out the prosecution’s use of illegally obtained evidence during their bank fraud and tax evasion trial.

The “Chrisley Knows Best” alums, per Daily Mail, argued that the evidence presented in court was obtained through an unlawful probe of a warehouse. The search was carried out by the Georgia Department of Revenue before Todd and Julie were indicted in 2019.

Todd and Julie doubled down on Anulewicz’s failure in his duties as a lawyer, stressing that he could have persuaded the judge to dismiss all of the prosecution’s illegally obtained evidence rather than just some of it. They believed this because investigators allegedly lacked a search warrant.

The duo continued bashing Anulewicz’s capabilities, claiming he and his firm had misrepresented themselves as capable of handling the federal criminal case. Todd and Julie alleged that Anulewicz “had no meaningful defense experience” before representing them.

They accused their former attorney, who was a partner at Balch & Bingham during the case, of spearheading their defense for ulterior motives. Anulewicz allegedly took the couple’s case “because the Chrisley name meant money, publicity, and the kind of high-profile notoriety that brings in business.”

The allegations against Anulewicz continued, with Todd and Julie accusing him not only of failing to represent them properly but also of using their finances. According to the complaint, Anulewicz had convinced the Chrisleys to drop “a $75,000 investment in his brother-in-law’s startup food truck business.”

They accused Anulewicz of “exploiting his position as their attorney to benefit himself and his family while neglecting his duty to them.” Todd and Julie claimed that Anulewicz’s actions, plus the poor representation in court, cost them millions.

The TV personalities alleged that they lost an estimated $25 million in income, their TV show, and their reputations. On the other hand, Attorney Patrick O’Connor, who is representing Balch & Bingham, declared that they would face the Chrisleys’ complaint head-on.

Following their 2025 presidential pardons, Todd and Julie held a news conference to celebrate their release from prison. During the event, someone asked whether Todd felt any remorse over his guilty conviction on bank fraud and tax evasion charges. To which he replied:

“I would have remorse if it were something that I did. The corruption that went on in our case is going to continue to unfold.”

The Blast reported that he also took a page from Trump’s playbook, implying that the reporter must be from CNN to ask such questions. Besides remaining adamant about his innocence, Todd vowed to fight against the injustices federal inmates experience behind bars.

Before regaining their freedom, Todd and Julie’s oldest daughter, Savannah Chrisley, fought tooth and nail for their release. Last August, The Blast reported that her efforts to secure her parents’ freedom were captured in the trailer for their new docuseries, “The Chrisleys: Back to Reality.”

The snippet revealed that Savannah and her older brother, Chase, had grown apart amid their parents’ absence. Savannah had stepped up to take responsibility for the younger Chrisleys, Grayson and Chloe, while fighting to clear Todd and Julie’s names.

Savannah confessed that she didn’t even want to try to have a relationship with Chase, whom she described as “a blank shell.” She also ignored her brother when he asked about her progress in securing their parents’ freedom, claiming he had a loose tongue.
