Shia LaBeouf won’t be spending time behind bars for his highly publicized bar fight during Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

The drama occurred earlier this year in February when videos and pictures surfaced of the actor getting treated by paramedics on the street. He was later arrested for attacking three men and faced battery charges.

However, Shia LaBeouf dodged a bullet by landing a plea deal that ensured he wouldn’t have to spend time in prison.

Shia LaBeouf Escapes Jail Time After Agreeing To Plead Guilty

According to new reports, LaBeouf appeared at a New Orleans court on Wednesday, June 3, to face the music for his viral Mardi Gras bar fight. He scored a plea deal that allowed him to escape jail time by pleading guilty to a reduced charge.

LaBeouf pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace by appearing intoxicated in public, and prosecutors honored the plea deal by dropping the simple battery charges he initially faced. TMZ reported that the plea deal allowed LaBeouf to avoid trial on the more serious allegations.

The outlet previously covered LaBeouf’s chaotic appearance in New Orleans early this year, when he was seen shirtless outside a bar. After receiving treatment from paramedics at the scene, LaBeouf was transported to a hospital and later taken into police custody.

The Plea Deal Did Not Stop The Actor From Facing The Music

Although the plea deal ensured LaBeouf did not end up in prison for the more serious allegations, it did not stop him from receiving punishment. The Guardian reported that LaBeouf was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to attend multiple classes.

The court-ordered programs included rehabilitation for alcohol abuse, sensitivity training, and anger management classes. LaBeouf’s attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, shed more light on his feelings following the hearing, claiming her client was ready to move on.

According to the legal representative, LaBeouf was “looking forward to focusing on family, work, and new creative projects.” Chervinsky also stressed that authorities concluded that her client’s arrest was linked to “nothing more than a minor … bar tussle,” shutting down the homophobic narrative.

Shia LaBeouf Was Caught On Video Hurling Homophobic Insults

Despite the attorney’s claims, the viral videos from the Mardi Gras incident captured LaBeouf hurling anti-gay slurs at the victims. He had been arrested for punching two men and head-butting a third at the R Bar in New Orleans’ Marigny neighborhood on February 17.

In sworn statements filed in court, the police declared that LaBeouf had insulted the men with homophobic slurs and became increasingly aggressive after bar staff asked him to leave the premises. One of the victims, Jeffrey Damnit, also recorded a video of LaBeouf calling him a “f-ggot” outside the bar.

Damnit previously told the outlet that he hoped LaBeouf would be prosecuted under a state law that allowed for increased punishment for those who victimize others based on the “actual or perceived” basis of sex or gender, among other categories.

The TV Personality Has A Long History Of Legal Troubles

Before the Mardi Gras bar incident, LaBeouf had already gained infamy for his troubles with the law. Page Six covered his harrowing history, reporting that the entertainer first spent time in prison when he was just nine years old.

In 1996, nine-year-old LaBeouf stole a pair of Nike Cortez sneakers from a shop in Pacoima, California, and was held for six hours. Two years later, he was arrested in Sunland-Tujunga, California, for stealing a Game Boy Pokémon from Kmart.

LaBeouf’s third arrest occurred nearly a decade later when he was booked in 2007 for getting into a fight with his neighbor. He reportedly spent two days in jail for the incident. That same year, LaBeouf was arrested at a Chicago Walgreens in the middle of the night for allegedly refusing to leave the store.
