More than three months after Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Arizona home, investigators and outside experts remain divided over what may have happened.
Amid wild speculations, a veteran forensic investigator has suggested that the missing octogenarian may have been targeted by a person who works close to her home after learning about her famous daughter.
Meanwhile, as law enforcement continues pursuing forensic and digital evidence, Nancy’s daughter, Savannah Guthrie, has reportedly intensified her own private search efforts.
Nancy Guthrie May Have Been Targeted By A Local Worker, Veteran Forensic Investigator Suggests

A former forensic investigator has suggested that Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance may have been financially motivated, theorizing that her connection to television personality Savannah Guthrie could have made her a target.
Speaking to Fox News Digital at CrimeCon in Las Vegas, veteran forensic scientist Barbara Butcher said she found the circumstances surrounding the 84-year-old’s disappearance highly unusual, suggesting it may have been done by a local who worked in the area.
According to Butcher, it is possible “someone in the area, maybe a handyman, maybe a service person, had found out that Mrs. Guthrie was the mother of Savannah Guthrie,” and assumed Nancy “must be rich” because of her daughter’s public profile.
The theory emerged after media organizations received multiple ransom messages demanding payment in cryptocurrency shortly after Nancy vanished.
However, Butcher expressed skepticism about the authenticity of those communications, noting the absence of any sustained effort to negotiate or collect a ransom.
The 80-Year-Old’s Body Might Be Buried In The Desert, Investigator Says

Butcher went on to speculate that if an abduction did occur, Nancy may have died shortly afterward due to fear, “shock, fright, heart disease,” or an underlying medical condition, potentially leaving the perpetrator with no way to profit from the crime.
Butcher suggested that such a scenario could explain why no further contact was made.
The veteran investigator noted, “And that’s just horrifying to me … and so now this kidnapper had nothing and probably, unfortunately, took her body into the desert and buried her there.”
Experts Question Ransom Note Motive As Investigators Continue Search In Nancy Guthrie Case

Another legal expert offered a different interpretation of the mysterious ransom messages.
Former prosecutor and criminal defense attorney RJ Dreiling suggested the communications may have been intended to “throw off investigators” and divert attention from what actually happened.
In a chat with Hello! Magazine, Dreiling said the person responsible appears to have taken considerable steps to “completely hide their tracks, including DNA, fingerprints, and electronic data, but also deranged enough to kidnap this woman out of her home and hold her hostage.”
Nancy was reported missing from her home in Catalina Foothills, Arizona, during the early hours of February 1. More than three months later, authorities have yet to announce any arrests.
Despite the passage of time, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos insists investigators do not consider the case cold. He said detectives continue to analyze physical, biological, and digital evidence while working closely with the FBI and multiple forensic laboratories across the country.
“There’s way too much work that is ongoing with some of the physical evidence we have, and we’re not going to give up on it just because it’s been 100 days,” he said, per the New York Post.
Experts Say Technology May Hold Key To Breakthrough In Nancy Guthrie Investigation

Sheriff Nanos also reiterated that investigators remain fully committed to solving Nancy’s disappearance, stressing that the focus remains on uncovering the facts and identifying whoever may be responsible.
“The reality is simply this: We’re policemen. We’re here to investigate a crime,” he said. “All the other side issues, the pundits and politicians, we’ll let them do their thing.”
As investigators continue their work, experts believe advances in technology could eventually provide the breakthrough authorities need. Morgan Wright, founder and CEO of the National Center for Open and Unsolved Cases, recently discussed the investigation with Fox News Digital’s Mike Ruiz.
Ruiz noted that federal authorities are reportedly introducing additional investigative resources, which he believes are likely technology-driven, although specific details have not been disclosed.
Wright suggested that the breakthrough in the case may ultimately come from advanced forensic techniques rather than traditional witness accounts.
He pointed to areas such as video analysis, digital signal tracking, and cryptocurrency-related investigations as potential avenues that could produce significant leads.
Savannah Guthrie Expands Private Search Efforts For Missing Mother Amid Ongoing Investigation

Meanwhile, despite growing public skepticism about whether Nancy will ever be found, sources say Savannah remains determined to continue searching.
According to a report, an insider revealed that the television journalist has made it clear that she has no intention of ending efforts to locate her mother and is prepared to continue pursuing answers indefinitely.
“She is not prepared to stop looking for her mother. She feels that depending only on the official investigation is not enough anymore – that’s why she’s investing so heavily in private investigators and outside specialists,” the insider claimed.
The source added that Savannah has expanded the search beyond official channels, investing significant resources into a private investigation.
An independent team, reportedly made up of former law enforcement personnel, security professionals, and experienced investigators, has been assembled to examine leads and explore avenues that may not be part of the public investigation.
