George Santos may be a leopard that can’t change its spots, as he’s back in trouble for allegedly lying to earn profits.
The disgraced politician fell from grace in 2023 when he was expelled from the House of Representatives for identity theft and was later convicted for wire fraud.
Although George Santos faced an 87-month prison sentence, he was released early thanks to President Donald Trump. Now, Santos is reportedly back on the feds’ radar for telling more lies to earn a massive payout.
George Santos Accused Of Orchestrating Bet Outcome

According to new reports, Santos had publicly announced his return to the spotlight four months after his release from prison. At the time, he took to social media to reveal he would attend Trump’s State of the Union address a day before the event.
The announcement sparked massive bet placements on the prediction market site Kalshi, as many believed Santos would attend the State of the Union address as promised. However, these traders lost their money when Santos did not attend the event, blaming it on unforeseen circumstances.
However, Santos’ sudden absence reportedly earned him tens of thousands of dollars because he had secretly bet on himself not attending Trump’s State of the Union address. Sources with direct knowledge told NPR that Santos had misled the public and turned a profit based on that deception.
The Disgraced Politician Is Reportedly Under Investigation

Once the cat was out of the bag, Kalshi allegedly froze Santos’ account and referred the case to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Department of Justice. Both the CFTC and the DOJ have since launched an investigation.
When asked about the investigation, Santos claimed he wasn’t aware of the situation and allegedly told more lies to cover up the incident. Santos claimed he knew the co-founder of Kalshi, Luana Lopes, noting he would call her to get to the bottom of the alleged case.
However, a source familiar with Kalshi’s investigation disputed Santos’ claims, arguing that he did not know Lopes. The same source added that Kalshi had repeatedly tried to interview Santos as part of their investigation, but he kept dodging their requests.
George Santos Lied His Way Into Power

Santos’ orchestrated bet drama isn’t the first time he has been accused of telling lies. His downfall stemmed from his lies and fabrications about his personal life and education, which he used to secure himself a seat in the government.
Those lies included Santos’ claims of graduating from Baruch College in the top 1% of his class, claims of his mother working in the South Tower of the World Trade Center during 9/11, and claims of being a Jew. All these claims were later proven false.
Surprisingly, Santos managed to be sworn in as a U.S. representative in January 2023 amid the growing scrutiny over his lies. He eventually fell from grace that May when federal prosecutors charged him with 13 counts of wire fraud, money laundering, and stealing money from political donors.
The Former Congress Member Regained His Freedom In October

Santos was expelled from Congress in December 2023 and received an 87-month prison sentence in April 2025. However, he regained his freedom in October 2025, barely four months after he started serving his sentence in July.
The Blast covered the story, reporting that Trump had commuted Santos’ 87-month sentence. The former congressman raved about regaining his freedom in an interview, claiming he was blindsided by the president’s decision but immensely grateful to him.
Additionally, Santos was unfazed by the backlash his commutation sparked, claiming people would still be offended if Trump had pardoned Jesus Christ. Santos’ attorney, Joseph Murray, urged the public for privacy, noting his client was still recovering from his experience behind bars.
How George Santos Reacted To His Expulsion From Congress

Although Santos reacted to his release from prison with gratitude, he blew hot over his expulsion from Congress in 2023. The Blast shared that the House of Representatives agreed to kick Santos out with a 311-114 tally, which included 105 Republicans in favor of his exit.
Santos did not take the results well, arguing that the House of Representatives had set a “new dangerous precedent for themselves” with his expulsion. When asked if he would remain to use the non-member privileges, Santos declared, “Why would I want to stay here? To h-ll with this place.”
As stated, Santos’ lies were the beginning of his downfall, with the federal charges sealing his fate. He was accused of orchestrating corrupt practices during his brief stint in office, with the most shocking allegation claiming Santos stole the funds intended for a disabled Iraq War veteran’s ailing service dog.
Will George Santos be charged for allegedly orchestrating bets?
