Rob Mariano, also known as Boston Rob, is reflecting on his reality TV mindset that still shapes his everyday life. Across multiple reality shows, including “Survivor,” “The Traitors,” and “The Amazing Race,” his approach has always been to play hard, stay aggressive, and don’t be afraid to make a big move.
Mariano sat down with The Blast through his partnership with Corona Extra to promote the nationwide virtual treasure adventure, the Corona Great Cooler Hunt, and to chat about the collaboration, his reality TV experiences, and what’s next for him.
Rob Mariano Talks Playing To Win On ‘Survivor’ And Other Reality Shows

Mariano, who competed on multiple seasons of “Survivor,” as well as “The Traitors,” “The Amazing Race,” and “Deal or No Deal Island,” reflected on his time on the shows and how he approaches competing with The Blast exclusively.
“So for me personally, I always play to win. So I am going to do whatever I need to do within the context and the rules of that game, to get to the end and win,” he shared with The Blast. “Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. But the thing about me I think that’s unique and different is I am never afraid to pull the trigger when I see the situation. I will do what I think is the correct move in the time frame that I think is correct.”
He added that he always plays “aggressively and not passively” and that approach has always “worked out for me one way or the other.”
The One Survival Skill That Comes In Handy Whether Competing Or Not
A lot of lessons were learned during his time on “Survivor,” but there’s one in particular that comes in handy in all areas of his life.
“I think being able to, in different situations, whether it’s at home with my family, with my wife, or in business, always kind of understanding the other person’s perspective,” Mariano told The Blast. “If you want to play ‘Survivor’ well, you have to be able to put yourself in the other person’s shoes.”
Mariano said that skill lends itself to his home life, as well as business, and competing.
“I think having the perspective to be able to put yourself in someone else’s shoes is important,” he continued.
Rob Mariano Said Adapting To ‘Different Situations’ Is ‘An Important Skill Set’
Mariano is known for being on multiple competition reality shows. Each show brings a similar perspective, as well as something new.
“When I first started playing the game, I was 25 and that was a long time ago. Every time I played, I felt like I learned something and brought something new to the table the next time,” he said. “I think that’s an important skill set, also, your ability to adapt to different situations.”
He further explained that there’s a lot “thrown at your throughout the course of a season” and sometimes things go your way, but other times, they don’t, so being able to adapt makes a huge difference.

Boston Rob’s Favorite Beach Vacays And What’s Next For Him

For someone who spends a great deal of time visiting beaches, it’s only natural to ask if he has a favorite one.
“We live in Florida now and we live on the beach at Perdido Key in Pensacola. It’s amazing,” he said. “I’ve also been to beaches all over the world, everywhere from New Zealand to Kaui, to the Middle East and Dubai.”
