Could there have been some behind-the-scenes tension on the set of “Ted Lasso?” Hannah Waddingham is opening up about her dynamic with co-star Jason Sudeikis, hinting that things weren’t always smooth sailing while filming the hit Apple TV+ series.
Hannah Waddingham Says Jason Sudeikis Likes To Change Things ‘Last Minute’

During a recent interview with Variety, published Saturday, the actress revealed she and Sudeikis share what she described as a “love-hate relationship,” while discussing his tendency to make last-minute script changes on set.
Waddingham, who stars as AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton opposite Sudeikis’ lovable coach Ted Lasso, explained that working with the Emmy winner sometimes meant staying on your toes. “There’s always going to be a bit of give-and-take within a scene,” she explained while discussing Sudeikis’ habit of reworking dialogue in the moment.
“He hears it in the room, and then we tweak,” the “Sex Education” alum said before adding, “With that boy, you’ve got to roll with the punches. He and I have an ongoing love-hate relationship that he changes it last minute.”
Hannah Waddingham Reveals What The ‘Ted Lasso’ Cast Is Really Like Behind The Scenes

Still, Waddingham made it clear the cast remains incredibly close behind the scenes, joking that it would feel “odd” if they didn’t speak regularly. She even gave a shoutout to fellow co-star Brett Goldstein while discussing the show’s tight-knit dynamic.
Goldstein, who plays fan-favorite Roy Kent, has also become known for making rewrites to the beloved series. In fact, changes behind the scenes reportedly delayed Season 3 for months.
‘Ted Lasso’ Fans Still Wonder About Rebecca And Ted’s Relationship

Waddingham also addressed one of the biggest questions surrounding the show: whether Rebecca and Ted’s connection could ever become romantic.
Since the series debuted in 2020, fans have speculated about the chemistry between the pair, despite their relationship remaining firmly platonic onscreen. “They are undoubtedly soulmates, but that can mean a myriad of things,” the actress said while reflecting on the duo’s bond.
Waddingham also admitted she “love[s] all the relationships in” the series, suggesting the emotional connections throughout the show are part of what makes it resonate so deeply with viewers.
‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 Is Officially On The Way

After Season 2 premiered in 2021 and Season 3 followed in 2023, Apple TV+ officially renewed “Ted Lasso” for a fourth season in 2025. This time around, the show is expected to take a fresh turn.
Back in February, Waddingham teased that Season 4 would be a “whole different deal” while sharing her excitement for what’s ahead. “I can’t wait for everyone to see what they’ve come up with,” she told Deadline at the time, adding that she would happily continue playing Rebecca for decades to come.
“I love it,” she continued. “I love Rebecca Welton, my character, and the writing is so magnificent. Jason Sudeikis and the writers’ room, it’s like a finely tuned machine. And the life lessons that you realize that they’re just tipping in here and there, it’s brilliant.”
Jason Sudeikis Confirms A Major ‘Ted Lasso’ Shake-Up In Season 4

More recently, Sudeikis dropped a major update about the future of “Ted Lasso,” and it comes with a surprising twist for Coach Ted. During a recent appearance on the “New Heights” podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, Sudeikis revealed, “We’re writing season 4 now,” before adding, “That’s the official word, yeah. Ted’s coaching a women’s team.”
Although the actor did not share additional details about how the storyline will unfold, the update appears to build on the Season 3 finale, which hinted at the launch of an AFC Richmond women’s team. Still, the reveal has sparked major speculation among fans, especially after Ted returned to the U.S. at the end of Season 3.
Many are now wondering whether the beloved coach will head back to England or if Season 4 will take the story in an entirely unexpected direction. For now, Sudeikis is keeping additional details under wraps, but his comments have only added to the growing excitement surrounding the next chapter of the beloved Apple TV+ series.
Season 4 of “Ted Lasso” premieres on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, on Apple TV+.
