Gypsy Rose Blanchard Speaks Out On Mackenzie Shirilla Documentary

Blanchard’s beach snaps come just days after she made headlines for weighing in on another high-profile true crime case. During a recent interview with TMZ, the reality star shared her thoughts on Netflix’s hit documentary “The Crash,” which explores the 2022 high-speed crash in Strongsville, Ohio, that killed two people and led to the murder conviction of driver Mackenzie Shirilla.
“I don’t think the documentary did her any favors,” Blanchard said when asked about Shirilla’s future and chances at parole. Blanchard, who has firsthand experience navigating public scrutiny following a criminal conviction, also predicted that remorse may eventually catch up with Shirilla in a major way, saying it would likely hit the young woman “like a train.”
Blanchard Questions Mackenzie Shirilla’s Chances At Parole

Shirilla, who was just 17 years old at the time of the 2022 crash in Strongsville, Ohio, was convicted in 2023 on two counts of murder after prosecutors argued she intentionally accelerated her vehicle to nearly 100 mph before crashing into a brick building.
The devastating crash killed Shirilla’s boyfriend, 20-year-old Dominic Russo, and 19-year-old Davion Flanagan. She was ultimately sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years.
Blanchard told TMZ she does not believe Shirilla is likely to receive early parole, pointing to factors she says parole boards heavily weigh during the review process. “The parole board takes into consideration behavior in prison, but most importantly remorse and family,” Blanchard explained. “So if the victim’s family writes against her parole, she will automatically be denied.”
The comments struck a chord, given Blanchard’s own widely publicized legal history.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard Knows Life Under Public Scrutiny

More than a decade ago, she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2015 stabbing death of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, after years of alleged abuse tied to Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
She was sentenced to 10 years in prison but was released on parole in December 2023 after serving roughly eight and a half years behind bars. Since then, Blanchard’s story has inspired multiple dramatizations and documentaries, including a Hulu miniseries and several true crime specials examining the shocking case.
