Lilo the corgi knows her stuff! The internet’s favorite four-legged sports analyst is stealing the spotlight during the NBA Finals with surprisingly accurate game predictions. Using a playful pick system that has fans hooked and saying, “In corgi we trust,” this social media star is a must-watch alongside the action on the court.
The Blast had the chance to chat with the famous pup’s owner, Denny, who shared a little about how her predictions got started and have evolved over time. And of course, talk of the NBA Finals entered the chat just as the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs are about to battle it out in Game 7!
Lilo The Corgi Grabs Sports Lovers’ Attention On Social Media
Sports fans know where to go if they want game winning predictions and it’s not to a betting site! Lilo the corgi, also known as Steph Furry and Aircorg, is the one who many fans go to for a fun way to predict who will win. And this NBA Finals season, she’s been on point.
When asked how Lilo’s sports predictions started, Denny told The Blast that she’s the pup who will “play fetch until she passes out.” He also explained that she’s named after Lilo & Stitch, and is “super alpha, bold, and pretty much a diva since she was a puppy.”
“Our family loves sports, especially NFL and NBA, but through our dog, we have become passionate fan bases of a lot of new sports like hockey and soccer,” he shared. “We have been able to connect with all these new fan bases, and it’s been so cool to be a part of.”
Denny realized at a birthday party for his wife during the pandemic that Lilo had a knack for hitting balloons around and one of them actually made it into a basket.
“We all froze and asked if anyone got that on camera,” he said. “I then trained her to do that same action with a beach ball and the rest is history.”
Lilo’s Predictions Are ‘More Right Than Wrong’
No one can be right all of the time, but at least she’s adorable and having fun whether her prediction is right or wrong. But sometimes, fans take it personally that she didn’t get a prediction correct.
“So if you dig through the comments section, you’ll see a lot of ‘this corgi is always wrong’ or ‘this corgi is always right,’” Denny said.
“I would say she’s more right than wrong. NBA predictions round by round, she’s 7 out of 8, 2 out of 4, and 1 out of 2, so 10 out of 13. But the last time it was crazy when the corgi predicted a 3-1 comeback for the GSW against the Lakers, and that was very close until game 6. This is the farthest we’ve gotten from a game by game prediction basis for a series.”
When asked if he feels pressure over the predictions, Denny said, “a lot of pressure.”
“Not going to lie, but if people rather blame the corgi than their team, then I’m all for being the scapegoat, or scapedog,” he said. “I am not even sure I would be able to watch Game 7.”
The Corgi Is Popping Up Everywhere…Including At The Last Spurs/OKC Game
After the last Spurs/OKC game, Denny started getting a lot of messages from friends about a Lilo sighting in the arena.
“We started getting a lot of messages and DMs from friends about the corgi sign at the game,” he said. “It’s just so cool to see my dog be part of something so big. A great fan base really on both sides.”
Denny has also posted other sightings of his pup in some IG Stories. Recent sightings include on a TV in a San Antonio gym, as well as a funny video that a fan made with Lilo in it.
So Who Is Lilo Predicting To Go To The Finals Against The New York Knicks?
Lilo’s got everyone talking in the comment section of her Spurs/OKC prediction video on Instagram.
“Not me putting all my faith into a corgi,” one viewer wrote. Another said, “Ok. This is getting weird but I will buy this doggo a year worth of treats if he ends up being correct!” One other viewer shared, “Air Corgi is literally trying to create a prophecy at this point.”
And that’s not all. Tons of similar sentiments fill the comment section.
“Dog predicted the whole series exactly as of the end of game 6. Spurs in 7 baby,” one person wrote. Another added, “This dog is on to something.”
Lilo’s Most Shocking Predictions So Far…
Many of Denny’s videos have gone viral, and each grabs a lot of attention, but when asked what the wildest prediction has been so far, he shared that Lilo once had a prediction that was really “crazy.”
“She has predicted one of the soccer tournament finals down to the final score, the order they scored in, the ‘misses’ were aligned to some event that happened to the game. It was crazy,” he said. “The GSW 3-1 comeback was really viral for us, and it didn’t end up working out, but we got a lot of heat in that period. The USA vs. Canada hockey finals was also the same where she guessed the exact score and goal order.”
He added, “But if San Antonio can pull this off, this will 100 percent be our best one.”
