Nicolas Cage has been getting candid about his Hollywood career, citing the cause and effect of some of his decisions.

The actor shed light on the time frame in which those roles were offered to him, explaining why he had to say a hard no to starring in some movies that went on to become hits. This comes shortly after he revealed that some directors ghosted him after he turned down their offers.

Nicolas Cage’s career in the entertainment space has been remarkably successful, albeit also highly unconventional. Despite turning down a handful of roles over the years, he has had over 90 film roles, some of which have earned him accolades.

Cage spilled the tea on two major roles he turned down in the past during a recent interview. The actor revealed that he almost starred in a cult classic comedy and an iconic superhero film back in the day.

He said that he nearly played supervillain Green Goblin in the 2002 “Spider-Man” movie starring Tobey Maguire. Due to creative differences, he ultimately backed out of the role, which eventually went to Willem Dafoe.

Cage also almost starred in “Dumb and Dumber,” a classic 1994 comedy film. He shared that he had to turn down the role because he had other projects he was invested in at the time.

The actor told Variety in the interview that, despite both films going on to become blockbusters, he has zero regrets about the choices he made.

Cage recalled having a conversation with “Spider-Man” director Sam Raimi in which he shared an idea for the movie but was shut down.

“Sam and I had a great lunch, and I did say during the lunch, ‘Listen, whoever plays Spider-Man, let them do one scene where they’re crawling around like a spider when they’re alone,’ and it didn’t happen,” Cage recalled.

He noted that Raimi really wanted him to play the Green Goblin and that he wanted to work with the director based on Raimi’s work in “Evil Dead 1 and 2,” but he was engaged in another film, “Adaptation,” during the same time frame.

In the 2002 metafictional comedy-drama, he worked with Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Tilda Swinton. The film later earned four Oscar nominations.

The movie personality further explained that he turned down the part of Lloyd Christmas in “Dumb and Dumber” because he was going to do another film, “Leaving Las Vegas,” in which he starred opposite Elisabeth Shue.

Cage went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in “Leaving Las Vegas”.  He also served as a screenwriter for both movies.

Cage was recently discussing his upcoming movie “Madden” when he dropped the bombshell on directors who had given him the cold shoulder after he had turned down roles from them in the past. He also praised director David O. Russell for giving him another chance despite turning him down before.

The actor portraying football coach John Madden in the upcoming biographical movie explained that he didn’t know much about the legendary NFL coach, but that Russell approached him for the role.

“He’s the only director that I ever said no to who actually came back and offered me another movie,”  he said, commending the director.

The Blast reported that Cage went on to mention some big industry names who never reached out to him after he rejected a role from them. “It’s happened with Christopher Nolan, it’s happened with Woody Allen, it’s happened with Paul Thomas Anderson. They don’t call me back.”

The media personality disclosed that Nolan offered him a role in “Insonnia,” a 2002 psychological thriller. He did not mention which films he declined from Anderson and Allen, but noted they were “early movies.”

Cage previously shared that he briefly dated his “Honeymoon in Vegas” co-star, Sarah Jessica Parker, in the early 90’s before she met her husband. He said their romance ended shortly after it began and also revealed the moment he realized they had made no headway.

“I cared about Sarah, but I don’t think I passed the mom test,” Cage said before recalling an early dinner with the actress’s mom. He noted that he could not place his fingers on exactly what changed, but after that dinner, he never heard from her again.

Parker admitted they briefly dated around the time they starred in the film, but their relationship ended before she began seeing Matthew Broderick in 1992. Parker married Broderick in 1997, and they welcomed three children.

Cage, on the other hand, has been married five times, including to the late iconic singer Elvis Presley’s daughter. He has three children from three women, as reported by The Blast.

Around the time Cage married Lisa Marie Presley, a rumor began circulating about the late singer’s iconic residence, Graceland. The rumor went that Cage, a fan of Elvis, went to the singer’s room, tried on his clothes, and sat on his toilet.

Graceland was opened to the public as a museum in 1982, five years after Elvis’ death, but the second floor, where his room and bathroom are located, is completely off-limits. The only people with access to the floor are his immediate family, vetted staff, and the museum’s curator.

The Blast reported that Cage confirmed he had been to the second floor during his marriage to Lisa, but not in the way the rumor claimed.

“I remember lying in Elvis’ bed, and he had one of those little fiber optics things that spin and change colors,”  he recalled, adding that he felt very relaxed in the space.
