Soccer legend Tim Howard is starring in a new YouTube Short highlighting how even a hard-earned win can come with a not-so-great aftermath.
As summer sports begin to heat up, Tim Howard is teaming up with Lysol to tackle one all-too-relatable problem for athletes and parents alike – stubborn post-game odor.
The soccer legend had some time to sit down with The Blast to share some insight into why “winning stinks,” how he passes his love of the game down to his two kids, and more. To top it off, Howard is giving fans a chance to own a piece of soccer history, auctioning off signed gloves worn in the lead up to the 2010 World Cup.
Tim Howard Wants People To Know How To Fix That ‘Winning Stink’

Howard recently teamed up with Lysol to help parents and players tackle the ultimate stink. Together, they are honoring the sweat and the “stink behind the win.”
“I may not be sweating it out on the field anymore, but I do know that after a long match, practice, or workout, my clothing stinks,” Howard told The Blast exclusively. “That’s why Lysol Laundry Sanitizer is my go-to, killing 99.9% of odor-causing bacteria in laundry.”
Since the smell of victory isn’t always sweet and odor-causing bacteria is the root cause of some bad smells, Lysol Laundry Sanitizer is the MVP in post-game laundry routines.
Tim Howard Stars In YouTube Short
Through the partnership, Howard stars in a YouTube short to get the point across with humor that players and parents often have to deal with some stinky clothes after practice or a game.
“Winning stinks is the reality players and parents face after a game — all the sweat and effort it takes to win is a badge of honor, but it leaves players with some serious stink in the post-game laundry,” Howard shared. “The video is all about getting the stink out of match worn gear with Lysol Laundry Sanitizer, even if you don’t mean to.”
Howard said the video is a “funny way to talk about sweaty match worn gear, and any time I get to talk about soccer and put my gloves on, it’s a good time.”
Fans Can Bid On Tim Howard’s ‘Match Worn Action’

Lysol has teamed up with MatchWornShirt to auction off some cool memorabilia, including a pair of Howard’s signed gloves that he wore in 2010.
“Throughout my career, I was lucky enough to collect some special jerseys from players around the world — those items mean a lot to players and fans, so this partnership is an exciting way to really celebrate match worn gear and the sweat and effort that goes into it,” he told The Blast.
“Head to MatchWornShirt.com to get in on the match worn action by bidding on the kit and gloves I wore in the video and other signed memorabilia.”
How Parenting Helped The Soccer Legend As A Broadcaster

Howard, a proud dad of two, is also a broadcaster, and shared the ways that parenting helps him in his career.
“Patience and being direct. I think that’s important in both broadcasting and parenting. Certainly broadcasting, you can’t beat around the bush,” he said. “I think it’s probably accurate in parenting as well, being direct is good.”
Speaking of Howard’s kids, his daughter is a college athlete, playing soccer at Syracuse University.
“So there’s a natural love of the game, sort of the hard work and putting in effort on and off the field,” he said. “I think that’s important, learning the value of hard work and how much you have to give to the game in order to be successful. So I try to get that across to her.”
As for broadcasting, Howard said it’s “easy because you don’t win or lose,” making it fun. He also said he gets “excited about going to the game as a fan,” because it’s not often that he gets to do the fan thing at games.
“Most of the time, 99.9% of the time, I go to the game in a work capacity, so I don’t really get to thoroughly enjoy it, so I’m looking forward to that,” he shared. “Of course, because it’s a home World Cup, dissecting how the men’s team does and following our US guys is going to be fun. It’ll be a roller coaster, speaking of emotions.”
Howard said he plans to wear his jersey to the first US game while sitting in general admission with all the other fans and is “looking forward to being one of them.”
World Cup Memories, Predictions, And His Podcast
When asked what memories stick out for him from his experience in the World Cup, he said it has to be the “famous Landon Donovan goal against Algeria in 2010.”
“I was a small part of the play, but just being on the field for that moment, which in the history of US men’s soccer, is top 3 or top 5,” he said. “So being a small part of that history always feels good, I get to talk about it and relive it.”
Howard has some predictions for the next World Cup and he’s not afraid to share them.
“As I’ve said publicly, I have Spain and France sort of against the whole field. I think Spain is going to win. I follow Erling Haaland so closely in the Premier League, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what he does on the world stage, because he doesn’t seem to slow down,” Howard told The Blast. “Anytime he plays for his country, he’s constantly in goal mode, which is hard to do in the World Cup, but if anyone can do that, it’s him. So I’m looking forward to seeing what he does.”
Howard also keeps busy with his podcast with Landon Donovan called, “Unfiltered Soccer,” where the two “are leading the conversation, but quite frankly, our fans lead the conversation.”
“If we’re talking about something they don’t want to hear, we don’t talk about it. We talk about all the things that they want to hear,” he said. “He and I are very passionate about the US men’s national team because we’ve done it all for that team and US soccer has given us so much back as well.”
