Marlon Wayans has learned from firsthand experience that love comes in different forms.
The comedian opened up in a recent interview, revealing what he has learned as he navigates loving and accepting his transgender son, Kai. He also spoke against forms of hate, including racism and transphobia, stressing that he wants to see his children protected and supported.
This is not the first time Marlon Wayans has been vocal about his trans son’s journey and his support for the LGBTQ+ community. A decision that left a scar on his online fanbase and following.
Marlon Wayans Details The Myriad Of Events Surrounding His Son’s Transition

Wayans shared the lessons he picked up from accepting his son’s transition and stepping into supportive dad mode despite the hovering storm of life challenges. He revealed that the process taught him “true unconditional love.”
The actor shared that the news of Kai’s transition came just as his “world crumbled” due to the personal tragedies he suffered as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic. “I lost 62 people that i loved, including my mother and my father,” the TV star said with a breaking voice.
He went on to explain a few causes of death to the 62 people who died during that time frame, when he also became an orphan.
“Some OD’d with fentanyl; others died of brain aneurysms, strokes. Sixty people that I loved died, and then my mother and my father died,” Wayans explained during his chat with Variety on Monday before adding, “and then my child transitioned from my daughter to my son.”
Wayans said everything was happening at once, noting that the overwhelming feeling made him remember some wise words from his late father, Howell.
Howell was a Jehovah’s Witness, and he instilled a sense of faith in their family; even though his son never became a Witness, he has a strong belief in God. “Sometimes you need faith to bring you through the darkness,” Wayans said, recalling his father’s words.
The Actor Got Candid About His Job As A Father

Speaking of Kai’s transition, Wayans stressed that going through that journey with his son has taught him unconditional love in a way he never experienced.
He explained that such love goes beyond romantic partners, noting that he has never been married because he was never ready for marriage.
What the comedian’s mind is set on is his children’s happiness at the end of the day, because their happiness makes him happy.
“My job as a father is to protect, respect, and honor my children, and make sure they feel supported,” he said, adding that as a father, it is not his job to judge his kids; his job is to love them.
Wayans went on to shed more light, describing his children as gifts and love as wrapping paper before switching to the topic of hate.
The actor stressed that hate of any form has no place in his agenda. Citing racism, homophobia, and transphobia, he said: “All those small-hearted, small-minded people, there’s a hell for you.”
The “Scary Movie” star sent a stern message to those who bully his son, telling them to go somewhere else, as he will not stand for it.
Marlon Wayans Has Ignored Judgment About His Trans Son

Earlier this year, the TV star spoke about showing love for Kai during this phase of life, adding that he will continue to support his son’s journey no matter the loud criticisms.
He explained these and more while appearing on a podcast, highlighting that protecting his child was nothing more than “natural instinct.”
“People can judge and say what they want, but at the end of the day, that’s my child,” the comedian noted. In addition to this, Wayans was vocal about his love for Kai and the fact that everyone should have the guilt-free choice to make decisions about their lives.
The Blast shared that the “White Chicks” actor referred to outdated and troublesome methods of dealing with gay or trans people. “You can’t beat gay out of someone. You can’t hypnotize someone to not be transgender,” he stressed.
Wayans admitted that accepting Kai’s transition from his daughter to his son did not come at the flick of the switch. It took him about a week to transcend from denial to acceptance, but once he did, there was no going back.
The ‘Little Man’ Actor Has Big Plans For His Upcoming Movie

It was announced in 2024 that the Wayans brothers were returning to the “Scary Movie” franchise. At that time, they released a statement announcing that they were excited to be part of the franchise that brought smiles to the faces of many and were looking forward to working on the new movie.
This movie will be the first time the Wayans brothers have returned since 2001’s “Scary Movie 2.”
“Scary Movie 6” is set to hit the screens next month, and the Wayans brothers are riding on its success at the box office to bring sequels of their older projects like “White Chicks” and “Dont Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood” back to the theatres.
According to The Blast, Wayans emphasized the importance of bringing humor and entertainment back, especially during these trying times.
He expressed that working with his brothers again on a franchise they began over 20 years ago, but were removed from, was so much fun. “We let everyone have fun, we let them improvise, and you’re gonna see it all over this movie. All of these references,” he said in a previous interview.
Marlon Wayans Dragged His Brother For An Unconventional Relationship

Wayans not only uses his voice to preach love and support for family but also to call out behavior he feels is wrong.
Last year, the comedian called out his older brother, Damon Wayans Sr., for getting down with his nephew’s ex-girlfriend. The “Little Man” star urged his brother to stop noting that it was not the first time.
Calling Damon the “girlfriend-stealing bandit of the Wayans clan,” the actor said that it was unnatural to have brothers, siblings, uncles, and nephews go after each other’s former lovers.
Wayans also said Damon does not have a specification with the ladies he goes for. “Don’t bring a girl around D, even the ugly ones, he takes ’em all,” he said.
The Blast reported that Damon tried to justify his actions, saying that he was in love with his nephew’s ex and pointing out that it was not a novel act.
He drew a comparison with the Jackson family, where Jermaine Jackson married his brother Randy’s ex-wife. Damon also claims he asked for his nephew’s blessing to pursue the said woman, so there were no ill feelings.
One thing is certain, and that is Marlon Wayans will always support his son.
