The movie star informed his loved ones that his scheduled appearance at a convention set for later this month will fall through due to some unplanned circumstance.

Richard Dreyfuss previously pulled out of last year’s SharkCon event, where he was billed to appear for the 50th celebration of “Jaws,” due to a health issue.

In his lengthy statement, the actor explained that while he has been looking forward to attending “The Hollywood Show” convention on May 29 and 30, it turned out that he will be unable to make it in person due to unforeseen circumstances.

Dreyfuss did not reveal why the event was canceled, but he said he was thankful for the huge response from fans and their enthusiasm.

The Oscar winner urged everyone attending to keep giving the other members of the “Jaws” cast their love and appreciation. He expressed gratitude to all those who have helped keep the memory of the famous movie alive over the years and assured them he would be there in spirit.

In the meantime, the event organizers took to Facebook to discuss the matter, stating that they were disappointed by the abrupt change and that Dreyfuss was very disappointed about missing the fan convention. They also confirmed that the actor has heartily apologized to those who had hoped to meet him.

Dreyfuss shared that the doctors had diagnosed him with viral bronchitis, as his wife, Svetlana Erokhin, helped clarify the condition off-camera as he searched for the right words.

Dreyfuss continued that his doctors strongly advised against traveling, especially because attending the convention would have required a lengthy flight.

While he was very excited about attending the event, Dreyfuss established that the well-being of his fans was very important to him, as he would not want to spread the illness at the event or worsen his condition.

The actor rounded up his address with a humorous statement, which read: “I want you all to feel very sorry for me, and very sorry for yourselves. I’m in a lot of pain, and that has to come first. My health.”

Dreyfuss noted that much of the cast’s time was spent waiting and lying around. At the same time, the crew tried to resolve problems ranging from malfunctioning mechanical sharks to random sailboats drifting into camera shots.

The actor continued that the experience became awfully boring as the scenes were interrupted by irrelevant outside factors, which affected multiple takes. Due to these bottlenecks, the actor stated that he became doubtful about the movie and even expressed this before it was released.

However, after finally seeing the completed version of the film, he had no choice but to admit he was wrong and subsequently felt like the silliest actor in America.

It is worth noting that Dreyfuss’ performance alongside Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw helped seal “Jaws “‘s spot as one of the most influential projects in Hollywood history.
