President Donald Trump expressed his enthusiasm over the end of Stephen Colbert‘s late-night show, sharing his unfiltered thoughts on social media. The two have criticized each other for more than a decade, turning their mutual disdain into public bickering.

“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” ended its 11-year run on May 21, and Trump signaled it as the “beginning of the end” for other late-night talk show hosts he has often targeted.

In July 2025, Stephen Colbert announced that his show was ending, explaining that CBS cited it as a “purely financial decision.” Although the host wasn’t fired, Trump said at that time, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,” adding that he thought the host’s talent was “less than his ratings.”

“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” aired its final episode on May 21, featuring a slew of celebrity guests, and Donald Trump couldn’t be happier.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on May 22, the POTUS took to Truth Social and wrote, “Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long.” Trump continued his celebratory post, criticizing Colbert and saying he had “no talent, no ratings, no life.”

“He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk,” Trump continued, expressing his relief over the end of Colbert’s career on late-night TV.

Several hours later, on May 22, Trump again returned to Truth Social, writing, “Stephen Colbert’s firing from CBS was the ‘Beginning of the End’ for untalented, nasty, highly overpaid, not funny, and very poorly rated Late Night Television Hosts.”

While Trump didn’t mention any names, he has expressed his dislike for other late-night hosts over the years, including Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Fallon. His disdain for the hosts stemmed from their on-air political commentary and satirical monologues during his presidency, creating a long-running tension.

“Others, of even less talent, to soon follow. May they all Rest in Peace!” Trump concluded the post.

A.I. Trump Throws Stephen Colbert In A Dumpster

Trump’s celebration didn’t stop there. For another post, this time on The White House’s official X account, he used A.I. to create a short clip of himself throwing Colbert into a dumpster. The video begins with Colbert seemingly starting a monologue as Trump creeps up behind him, grabs him by the suit, and tosses him in a green garbage bin.

The Village People’s “Y.M.C.A” then begins to play, and A.I. Trump does his signature dance move, pumping his fists in the air. “Bye-bye,” he captioned the post, followed by a waving hand emoji.

While some shared Trump’s opinion of Colbert, others criticized him, with one saying, “Weaponizing the Oval Office for personal grudges and propaganda memes isn’t leadership; it’s thin-skinned authoritarian cosplay. The country is watching this embarrassment unfold.”

In an interview with PEOPLE published on May 19, Colbert spoke about the end of his talk show and the rumors that it was canceled due to politics. The host said that he can’t argue about the audience’s speculations about the reason for his cancellation, adding, “but we’re clowns.” “How much does it diminish the office of the Presidency to even notice what we say?” Colbert said.

The show’s cancellation came days after Colbert slammed Paramount, CBS’s parent company, for their $16 million settlement with Trump. The president accused them of deceptively editing an interview with Kamala Harris, which he claimed violated trade practices.

Colbert further noted that while he values his role in public discourse, the country doesn’t depend on his voice alone. “I’ll never stop caring about my country,” he noted, later adding that Trump should “know how to pick his battles, metaphorically and literally.”

Trump’s latest comments about late-night hosts come weeks after he called for ABC and Disney to fire Kimmel over his remarks prior to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting.

As The Blast previously reported, both the POTUS and FLOTUS publicly pushed for the companies to fire Kimmel for saying Melania had “a glow like an expectant widow.” Days later, the WHCD shooting occurred. Kimmel responded by saying it was “obviously a joke,” adding that it was in no way a call for violence as the president claimed.

While Kimmel was suspended for a Charlie Kirk comment he made in 2025, ABC hasn’t acted on Trump’s demand for the host’s latest remarks.
