Nicola Peltz Beckham is walking away from her emotional legal battle over the death of her beloved chihuahua, Nala. Nearly two years after accusing a dog groomer of being responsible for the pup’s tragic death, the actress and wife of Brooklyn Peltz Beckham has officially dropped the lawsuit she filed against a New York grooming company and its employees. The legal decision comes after months of allegations, heartbreaking claims, and accusations that multiple dogs connected to the family allegedly suffered distress after grooming appointments.
Nicola Peltz Beckham Accused Groomers Of Causing Nala’s Death

Nicola initially filed the lawsuit in July 2024 against HoundSpa LLC, owner Deborah Gittleman, and groomer Jony Ceballos after alleging her dog Nala died following what was supposed to be a routine grooming appointment. According to court documents, Nicola claimed Nala had been “happy and healthy” before the appointment but allegedly collapsed afterward and died despite being rushed to the veterinarian.
The actress reportedly described the heartbreaking ordeal as deeply traumatic, explaining that she treated the dog “like her own child” and had been left “emotionally distressed by the whole ordeal,” particularly after witnessing Nala’s death.
In the lawsuit, Nicola alleged Ceballos’ conduct had been “severe and outrageous,” claiming the dog was left “in serious physical distress with her lungs full of water, chest pulsating and hyperventilating” following the appointment. Despite emergency efforts, Nala died just hours later.
Other Family Dogs Allegedly Also Showed Signs Of Distress

The lawsuit didn’t stop with Nala. Nicola also claimed she later learned Ceballos had allegedly groomed another one of her dogs, Frankie, back in 2022, and believed there were troubling similarities.
“It was only after Nala’s tragic death that Nicola understood that, upon information and belief, Ceballos was also apparently responsible for the death of her dog, Frankie, in 2022,” she claimed. “Upon returning from his grooming with Ceballos, Frankie was in visible physical distress, repeatedly stumbling as if he had been sedated.”
The suit continued, “Nicola cried, and cared for her dog – not at that time suspecting that an individual charged with caring for her dog would have hurt him,” before additionally alleging that another dog, Angel, continued to experience trauma after being groomed and had developed anxiety around being left alone.
According to the filing, Angel “has developed a fear of being left in a room alone and whenever left in a room alone, she starts to shake and scream in apparent terror.” The lawsuit also claimed Nicola’s brother and his girlfriend had allegedly raised concerns involving one of their own dogs, Banksy.
All Parties Have Now Agreed To End The Legal Battle

However, new court documents show the legal fight has now come to an end. According to paperwork signed earlier this month in New York Supreme Court, all parties involved agreed to permanently discontinue the lawsuit, with neither side paying legal costs, expenses, or attorney fees.
A lawyer representing HoundSpa and owner Deborah Gittleman addressed the decision in a statement. “The civil litigation involving the passing of Ms. Peltz Beckham’s dog, Nala, has been discontinued,” they said per the Daily Mail. “All parties to that civil action have exchanged extensive documentation and all parties concluded that the death of Nala was not intentional. All persons involved in the matter share the grief and disappointment that comes from the passing of Nala.”
Groomer Previously Denied Responsibility For Nala’s Death

Before the lawsuit was dropped, groomer Jony Ceballos had strongly denied playing any role in Nala’s death. His legal team reportedly argued Nicola herself was “liable for her comparative negligence” while also pushing back against allegations made in the lawsuit.
Nicola had additionally been warned last year that she would likely need to provide Nala’s necropsy report should the case move forward to trial. The legal development marks a dramatic turn in what had become an emotional and highly publicized dispute surrounding the death of the actress’ beloved pet.
The Peltz Family Recently Faced Another Dog-Related Lawsuit

The legal update also comes shortly after another lawsuit involving the Peltz family quietly wrapped up. Nicola’s billionaire father, Nelson Peltz, recently settled a separate case brought by former housemaid Mileydis Morejon, who alleged she had been attacked by the family’s pit bull, Houdini. Morejon had reportedly been seeking $75,000 in damages before the matter was settled out of court
