It has been four whole years, and Tiffany Haddish can only make do with this mild victory.
The 46-year-old comedian has a small reason to smile as a judge gave a ruling in her favor, but the already slow-paced case rages on.
Tiffany Haddish petitioned the court to have her old DUI arrest dismissed earlier in the month, four years after she got arrested in Peachtree City, Georgia, for sleeping on the highway.
Inside Tiffany Haddish’s Latest Legal Victory

Haddish scored a minor legal win in her long-running Georgia DUI case after a judge ruled that one field sobriety test and several statements recorded by the police cannot be used at trial.
According to the ruling, the arresting officer improperly conducted the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test after the actress informed him she had a lazy eye.
The judge reportedly found that the officer failed to consider how the actress’s condition could affect the test’s accuracy, rendering the results inadmissible in court.
The court also sided with Haddish regarding statements she made during the arrest, determining she did not read her Miranda rights before questioning began.
The judge noted that once the officer confronted her about smelling marijuana, it was not out of place for Haddish to feel compelled to respond. Thus, the exchange could turn into an interrogation.
However, TMZ confirmed that the ruling was not a complete victory for the actress as prosecutors will reportedly still be allowed to use evidence from two additional field sobriety tests.
Meanwhile, Haddish’s attorneys, Marissa Goldberg and Drew Findling, are insisting that the misdemeanor case be dismissed entirely, noting that the extended delay violates her right to a speedy trial.
The ‘Girl’s Trip’ Actress’s Career Felt The Weight Of Her Case

As The Blast reports, Haddish’s case has remained in limbo for more than two years since her legal team filed a motion to suppress evidence.
While a hearing on the motion was held in May 2024, the court reportedly failed to issue any rulings afterward, thus stalling the case.
Haddish’s lawyers revealed that prosecutors had requested delays twice last year, which slowed the proceedings.
In their filing, the comedian’s lawyers stressed that they had repeatedly informed the court they were prepared for trial and had followed up numerous times regarding the unresolved rulings.
Haddish’s attorneys added that the unresolved case has negatively affected her financially, causing her to miss out on important business opportunities while the misdemeanor matter remained in court.
They also said the pending case complicated her efforts to obtain clearance to travel to Australia for filming, consequently leading her to spend extra money resolving her immigration issues.
Tiffany Haddish Prioritized Getting Clean After Her Second Arrest

The actress was taken into custody in November 2023 after police reportedly discovered her asleep inside her vehicle while the engine was still running in California.
Haddish subsequently pleaded no contest to reckless driving charges following the arrest and was sentenced to one year of summary probation.
The 46-year-old was also ordered to complete 40 hours of community service, pay standard court fines and fees, and enroll in several court-mandated programs as part of the terms of her arrest.
Two months after the episode, Haddish discussed how she felt about staying away from alcohol and marijuana as required by the court, noting that her new reality was not a difficult one.
Haddish clarified that her marijuana usage was to address the painful symptoms of her endometriosis, which she had also spoken about publicly in the past.
The Comedian Got Candid About Going Through Homelessness

Before dominating the screens in Hollywood, Haddish struggled with homelessness and hunger, which almost thwarted her journey. Of course, the actress got honest about that phase of her life, revealing the unusual lengths she went to.
As noted by The Blast, the celebrated actress admitted that she quickly learned the art of crashing wedding parties at hotels around Los Angeles to get her meal for the day.
The actress’s technique would help her blend in with the guests and even go so far as to build trust by raising a toast to the newlyweds. Haddish recalled that sometimes, curious guests caught on to her system and would stare at her in confusion when she spoke about the couple she had never met.
In another interview, the comedian further opened up about her personal experience with homelessness during a promotion for her documentary. The project centered on successful women who built lasting relationships with homeless men.
The actress explained that her mission with the project was to challenge the stigma surrounding homelessness, adding that people facing those struggles still deserve love, support, and human connection rather than isolation.
Tiffany Haddish Relieved The Experiences Of Growing Up In Foster Homes

The media personality had also previously discussed going through a difficult childhood and the hardships experienced.
Having grown up in foster care after her mother suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident, life came at Haddish very fast as a teenager.
Nevertheless, she decided to turn her pain into passion and began advocating for a better system for foster youth.
Over the years, Haddish has spoken about creating meaningful opportunities for children aging out of the foster care system.
One of the actress’s biggest missions has been to establish a trade school to serve foster youth and provide practical skills, stability, and confidence for young people navigating adulthood.
The actress has also confessed how emotional trauma and instability can make it difficult for many foster children to envision a successful future.
Instead of promoting only traditional academic routes, Haddish’s vision would combine equipping young people with hands-on skills and life training to help them build independence and a brighter financial future.
