Stephen Colbert is looking back at the scripts and plotlines that never made it to air as his final taping draws near. The comedian revealed that, as part of the show’s planned celebration in the event of a Hillary Clinton win in the 2016 presidential election, they had intended to feature naked male models.

Colbert also shared that he has been approached with scripts and will soon return to showbiz, adding that he is not afraid to keep taking jabs at Donald Trump.

Stephen Colbert Recalls Wild 2016 Election Skit

As part of the final stretch of his famous eponymous late-night show, Colbert has been reflecting on moments that never made it to air, even after plans for them had been fully perfected.

In a recent segment of “The Late Show,” the 62-year-old comedian told the audience that his team was so convinced Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 presidential election that they had planned an incredibly bizarre celebration featuring a troupe of nude male models.

“We were doing a live special on Showtime, and no commercial breaks, and as the results started to come in, it became clear that we had planned for a different outcome,” he explained.

Putting up a blurred image of the models, Colbert continued, “We were so sure that The New York Times prediction needle was right, we hired a bunch of naked male models with the words ‘I’m with her’ painted on their full plump butts. Sadly, all of those models had to be put down, but first, we tried to save the bit. And as the outcome became clear, we repainted their butts to say ‘We’re [bleep].’”

Colbert is set to tape his final episode tonight, before CBS officially pulls his show off the air. The network announced in July last year that it had decided not to continue with the late-night program for financial reasons, with reports claiming the show was losing about $40 million.

However, the news raised eyebrows among many, as it came after Colbert publicly called out CBS’s parent company, Paramount, for agreeing to pay a $16 million settlement to Trump over claims that its newsmagazine series “60 Minutes” had maliciously edited a 2024 interview with Kamala Harris.

After nine long years on “The Late Show,” Colbert has interviewed several global and national heavyweights, from former presidents to musicians and Hollywood celebrities.

It may seem like he has done it all, but the late-night host revealed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the one person he still would have loved to interview was the Pope. He added that he even tried reaching out to the pontiff.

“The pope is my white whale. I wrote him. I said, ‘Come on!’ No, I said, ‘Your Holiness, I hope this letter finds you well or, at the very least, infallible. Would you please come on my show? We don’t have to talk about politics,” he said.

Colbert continued, “I said, ‘Let’s talk about being an American Catholic.’ Now, if the pope goes on Kimmel [instead], I’m going to think hard about the Presbyterian church. That’s all I’m saying.”

Colbert Says Showbiz Return Is Coming

Colbert appears to have moved on and is now focusing on what the future holds. He revealed that he will return to co-writing the “Lord of the Rings” franchise, with Variety reporting that he pitched the script long before CBS fired him.

Elsewhere in his interview, Colbert suggested that he will likely return to showbiz soon and has already been approached with scripts.

“Yes, immediately,” he confirmed when asked if his plan to “reenter show business” is still on. “And listen, people have been patient because I’ve had to say, like, ‘I’m sorry, when I no longer have to think about this show all the time, I’ll have a better idea of what I want to do.’ But it’s been very nice.”

The circumstances surrounding Colbert’s exit, coupled with his continued jabs at Trump, suggest that a full-blown feud is unfolding between them. After news of his firing broke last July, Trump took to Truth Social to mock Colbert, writing, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.”

However, the comedian has remained defiant, saying in a recent interview with PEOPLE that he is not afraid of any potential fallout with Trump or the political implications surrounding his exit.

“I don’t have any fear of the administration doing anything to me,” he told the news outlet. “We’re clowns. How much does it diminish the office of the presidency to even notice what we say? That guy needs to know how to pick his battles, metaphorically and literally.”
