Donald Trump’s Mother’s Day message is not going over as smoothly as the White House may have hoped.
What was meant to be a warm Rose Garden tribute to “Angel Moms” and mothers who lost children in military service has now become another flashpoint online, with viewers using the comments section to tear into the president over some of his policies.
Donald Trump Hosted Mother’s Day Luncheon At The White House
Trump hosted a small gathering of women at the White House Rose Garden ahead of Mother’s Day last week, using the event to honor mothers who have endured the loss of a child. During the luncheon, the president interacted with several moms and delivered an emotional speech touching on motherhood, sacrifice, immigration, and military service.
Addressing the crowd, Trump praised the bereaved mothers for their resilience and strength in dealing with the pain of losing a child. He also paid tribute to the 13 U.S. service members who were killed during the 2021 Abbey Gate attack in Afghanistan.
“For those mothers who lost their child, we love you especially,” Trump told the audience during the luncheon, per Fox.
Trump’s Mother’s Day Message Isn’t Going Over Well

However, Trump’s Mother’s Day tribute is not landing well with everyone, with some critics airing their frustrations in the comments section of a YouTube video of the speech.
One viewer argued that the president’s message felt hollow given some of his policies.
“Too bad Mom now suffering because of his great big Beautiful Bill,” the commenter wrote. They also accused the former businessman of not “helping all moms” and instead “spending money” on projects like “building a ballroom,” while allegedly taking “such good care of his billionaire[s].”
Another viewer was far more scathing, launching into a lengthy criticism of Trump’s record and accusing him of being a “corrupt criminal” and “a liar.”
Donald Trump Steps Out At LIV Golf Event After Mother’s Day Tribute
The president also recently attended the LIV Golf Virginia event at Trump National Golf Club, where he was seen watching the action alongside his son, Eric, per USA Today.
Trump is an avid golf fan and player, and has recently expressed hope that the PGA Tour would welcome LIV players back into the fold. This comes amid reports of funding uncertainty surrounding LIV.
“I do believe that all of the golfers, the great golfers, should be playing against each other,” he told reporters during an April 30 news conference. “I want to see Rory [McIlroy] playing Bryson DeChambeau. I want to see big Jon Rahm playing Scottie [Scheffler], who’s so great.”
Trump’s Poll Numbers Take A Hit

The online backlash comes as Trump’s approval rating has taken a hit less than six months before the November midterm elections.
According to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, Americans are broadly dissatisfied with the way his second term has unfolded, particularly on major issues such as the economy, inflation, immigration, the cost of living, and the situation with Iran.
On that last issue, Trump recorded a 66% disapproval rating, compared to 33% who approved. His inflation numbers were even weaker, with 72% disapproving of his handling of the issue and only 27% approving.
Overall, the president’s approval rating stands at 37%, while his disapproval climbed to 62%, marking the highest disapproval rating of his two presidential terms, according to the poll.
Donald Trump’s Media Company Suffers $406M Loss

Trump has also been facing financial pressure through his media and technology company, which reported a staggering $406 million loss in the first three months of the year.
According to The Guardian, Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of his preferred Truth Social platform, recorded the massive first-quarter loss while generating just over $870,000 in revenue. The company’s net sales were up 6% year over year, but the increase was not enough to offset its wider financial troubles.
In a press release, the company said most of the loss came from “non-cash losses” totaling $368 million. It also cited accreted interest of $11.5 million and stock-based compensation of $11.8 million.
Interim CEO Kevin McGurn said Trump Media is “using its strong balance sheet and positive operating cash flow” to keep growing its businesses and platform infrastructure. He also praised Truth Social as a “bastion of free speech,” adding that the platform has “innovative enhancements coming soon.”
