George Clooney clocked 65 with a special surprise from his longtime partner, Amal Clooney.
The Hollywood veteran marked his birthday on Wednesday, May 6, surrounded by love. He and his wife recently revealed how they enjoyed the big day.
George Clooney tied the knot to Amal Clooney in 2014. They welcomed twins, a daughter named Ella and a son named Alexander, in June 2017.
George Clooney Says He’s Too Old For Surprises
The two-time Academy Award honoree and his stunning wife attended the King’s Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Monday, May 11. George donned a navy blue suit for the occasion while Amal dazzled in a gold dress.
They paused for an interview on the red carpet, where they were asked about the “Fantastic Mr. Fox” star’s 65th birthday celebration. Amal revealed that she had surprised him with a number of things, including having his friends pose as waiters.
George chimed in with a joke, telling British Vogue, “It’s a dangerous thing to surprise someone when they turn 65 because you could drop. You know, that could be the end of you, so you have to be very careful when you surprise people.”
The Power Couple Have Different Pieces Of Advice For Their Kids
George kept joking about his distaste for surprises in his sixties, claiming he was barely standing after Amal’s birthday surprise. The jokes continued when the couple shared their advice for their children, who turn nine in June. “Don’t mix grain and grape,” the actor said.
He added that he believed it was important for his children to know not to mix the two. On the other hand, Amal hoped their kids would retain their curiosity as they grew older, advising them to “ask lots of questions and challenge the things that don’t make sense to them.”
George couldn’t help but point out the difference between his advice and Amal’s with another joke. “You see, my wife, she gives an elegant answer, and then I give the important answer,” he playfully added. Amal quickly matched his tune, noting their kids should ask their father for drinking advice.

The video of George and Amal’s interview received positive responses from fans on Instagram, with many gushing about their adorable chemistry. “Such a beautiful, elegant couple,” someone declared, with another fan dubbing them “a stunning couple.”

The Hollywood Veteran Stopped Intimate Scenes For His Wife
George explained in the 2025 interview that he had taken a page out of actor Paul Newman’s book. The latter famously turned down all intimate scenes in his movies out of consideration for his wife and to show his loyalty.
George noted that he decided “to go the route Paul Newman did” after a conversation with Amal. They had the talk when he turned 60, with George recalling that he told his wife he was in great shape and could still play basketball with the boys and hang out.
However, he knew time was catching up with him. “In 25 years, I’m 85 years old. It doesn’t matter how many granola bars you eat, that’s a real number,” George added. The interview wasn’t the first time the entertainer had addressed his age.
George Clooney Reflects On The Time He Has Left With His Kids
The Blast reported in September 2025 that George had opened up about being a father to two young kids in his sixties. He explained that he was no longer in a “mad rush” to succeed and could spend more time at home with his children.
“I get to be home with my kids a lot, and it’s fun. I’m still young enough that I can run around with them,” George said. He noted that his ability to engage in physical activities with his kids was “going away quickly”; however, he tried not to focus on the negative.
Instead, George was grateful he could still run around with his kids and was having “a really fun time” doing so. He welcomed twins Alexander and Ella with his wife, Amal, in June 2017, nearly three years after they tied the knot in September 2014 at Ca’ Farsetti.
