Bonnie Tyler’s condition is said to be serious but stable amid her hospitalization in Faro, Portugal, according to a statement released by her management on Tuesday.

According to the Daily Mail, while the singer is “seriously ill,” doctors are optimistic about her recovery, despite ongoing concerns surrounding her health.

In the statement, representatives for the 74-year-old pushed back against what they described as “many lurid and untrue rumors” circulating online and in the media.

They also clarified that businessman Liberto Mealha, who had previously spoken publicly about Tyler’s condition, is not acting on behalf of the family and has no official involvement in updates regarding her care.

The statement stressed that Tyler’s family is asking for “privacy and decency at this difficult time,” while she continues treatment, adding that any official developments regarding her condition will come directly from her management team.

Earlier reports had claimed the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” star was placed in an induced coma after suffering complications following emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal.

Tyler, who owns a home in the Algarve region, had reportedly undergone treatment for a perforated intestine and related complications after initially suffering severe abdominal pain shortly after arriving in the region.

According to reports from Portugal, Tyler had experienced health concerns weeks earlier while in London, where she reportedly underwent medical testing after feeling unwell during a performance.

However, no clear diagnosis was made at the time. Sources claim her condition deteriorated after returning to Portugal, leading to an emergency hospital admission and urgent surgery.

Mealha, described as a longtime friend of the singer, had earlier claimed Tyler was transferred from a private clinic to Faro Hospital after doctors discovered her appendix had burst.

He also said her husband, Robert Sullivan, had remained by her side throughout the medical emergency and praised hospital staff for their care.

Although representatives previously confirmed Tyler underwent emergency surgery and remained under close observation, they have not commented on reports alleging she suffered cardiac arrest or required resuscitation during treatment.

Despite Tyler’s extensive catalog, it is her 1983 anthem “Total Eclipse of the Heart” that continues to experience renewed popularity, particularly during major solar and lunar eclipses.

In an April 2024 interview with “Good Morning America,” the singer said she still feels a thrill whenever the song comes on the radio and admitted the connection becomes even more meaningful during real-life eclipses.

“Every time the eclipse comes, everyone all over the world, they play ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart,’ and I never get tired of singing it,” she said, per People Magazine.

The power ballad, written and produced by legendary songwriter Jim Steinman, has seen repeated spikes in streaming numbers during eclipse events.

According to Spotify data shared at the time, searches for the Grammy-nominated track rose by nearly 50 percent in the United States ahead of the April 2024 solar eclipse.
