Jeff has yet to make any public statement about his brother’s death. However, he was recently in the news after completing his first “Survivor” challenge since he began hosting the show over two decades ago.

As PEOPLE Magazine reported, Jeff revealed that his participation was actually the idea of late-night host Jimmy Fallon.

Once he began, it quickly became clear that he could not compete as well as the other contestants, and they wasted no time lightly teasing him.

Jeff ultimately admitted defeat and promised to temporarily stop joking about or teasing the contestants after his loss.

“I deserve all of this. Twenty-five years of trash talking,” the host said in response to their remarks. “I will never talk the same kind of trash again… until next season.”

During the 50th season, Jeff also took part in several memorable moments, including rapping during a tribe swap reveal and performing impressions of three players at Tribal Council.

Fans of the reality TV series were shocked to see this lighter side of the longtime host, and Probst later addressed his participation in an interview with PEOPLE.

“I’m willing to be the butt of the joke. I’m fully aware I’m usually the butt of the joke. I don’t take myself seriously,” he told the outlet.

Explaining further, he noted that it was all about showing the cast that he has “skin in the game,” adding that it “won’t be the last time I make a fool of myself this season.”
