On Monday, May 11, LaPaglia updated her TikTok page with an over five-minute video about her medical emergency. She began by telling fans that she could not talk in long sentences because of the pain from the procedure, which occurred on Sunday night.

As for what happened, LaPaglia explained that she and the guy she is currently dating decided to enjoy some time together on Saturday. They eventually got back home at midnight and got Taco Bell to satiate their hunger, but 15 minutes later, LaPaglia began experiencing pain.

The “BFFs” podcast host described the pain as excruciating, noting she initially ignored it because her boyfriend didn’t exhibit any symptoms. LaPaglia tried to sleep it off until the throbbing in her stomach became unbearable and she was forced awake around 3 AM. In her words:

“I like sneaked out of the room, and I started projectile vomiting. I’m lying on the bathroom floor. I’m like literally convulsing.”

After puking her guts out, LaPaglia still tried to soldier through the pain. She recalled resting on the couch and then the floor, rolling around in turmoil until the pain became “a 20 out of 10,” and she was left crawling on the ground. Finally, she woke her boyfriend and asked him for help.

The couple wasted no time heading to the emergency room, but LaPaglia’s troubles were far from over. “This is where it f-cking annoyed the sh-t out of me and why women need to advocate for themselves,” she recalled, noting a male doctor had dismissed her pain.

“He had the audacity to be like, ‘I think it’s just the Taco Bell,'” LaPaglia lamented, arguing that the male doctor would have been unable to endure the pain as long as she had before rushing to the hospital. After putting her foot down, LaPaglia underwent multiple tests to find the root of her pain.

Following the tests, LaPaglia was told she needed to be rushed in an ambulance to another hospital for surgery. Doctors had discovered “a giant cyst” on her ovaries that was causing the ovaries to twist, a condition known as ovarian torsion.

“So my cyst was giant, and it was twisting my organs, and it also was causing a lot of bleeding,” LaPaglia shared. She explained that there was “half a liter of blood” in her pelvic floor, which caused all the pain she had experienced.

Unlike the male doctor in the emergency room, LaPaglia was full of praise for the all-female team that worked to drain the blood from her pelvic floor and remove the cyst. “They were amazing, badasses,” she raved, claiming they asked for her music of choice before putting her under.

LaPaglia’s emergency surgery comes months after she broke down in tears while announcing her PCOS diagnosis last November. US Weekly reported that she shared the health update on TikTok, explaining that she had undergone a full-body MRI scan known as Prenuvo.

She confessed that she already suspected that she had PCOS, but began “low-key freaking out” when the results confirmed her fears. According to Mayo Clinic, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that can cause irregular periods, excessive hair growth, and infertility.

Other symptoms include obesity and recurring ovarian cysts. In LaPaglia’s case, she claimed she had no symptoms and her periods only became irregular if she was stressed. Following the diagnosis, LaPaglia’s main concern was the potential impacts PCOS could have on her fertility.
