Justin Baldoni already took a step back from his legal drama with Blake Lively before everything changed!

Sources from the actors’ camps have respectively confirmed that they are beyond relieved to put their nearly two-year-old legal drama behind them for good, although the director was not a party to the case at some point.

Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively achieved a breakthrough in their deadlocked case earlier this week by opting for a settlement and closing that chapter in their lives for good.

The actor’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, explained that Baldoni and his camp are pleased with the results of the settlement. He revealed that while the settlement was a good thing for the director, he was no longer personally involved in the litigation by the time settlement discussions started.

Feldman added that his client is not a party to the case, and people often miss out on this information when analyzing the case. In his words: “If you’re looking at this settlement as a win or a loss or anything else, I think he just looks at it as a logical ending to a case that he was already out of.”

Feldman noted that before settlement talks began, ten out of the 13 claims made by Lively were already thrown out, and five individuals were also out of the case. As shared by Extra TV, the attorney stressed that all that was left in the case was the actress versus “It Ends With Us,” the movie LLC, the agency group, and Wayfarer Studios.

Certainly, a tussle that lasted for nearly 24 months, with a series of allegations being thrown in each other’s way, would come with several consequences, especially on the duo’s public and professional image. 

As stated by The Blast, Lively felt the heat of the court case on her brand, as confirmed by the contents of an internal e-mail between her brand and Betty Booze’s staff. The conversation was reportedly between staff members from Betty Booze and a representative from Kroger, sharing that the brands did not feel positive about collaborating with her amid the legal feud.

According to the e-mail, the company voiced their concerns about the significant situation, which may directly affect sales and leave it in the negative index. There were equally as many questions on how the actress hoped to turn things around in her favor.

Another company that stocks Lively’s Betty Booze after signing a deal with her in 2024, Princess Cruises, sent an email via their VP of Food & Beverage. In the conversation, the executive emphasized that their legal team was worried about any potential implications that may affect their image.

The warring co-stars released a joint statement on May 4 about a crucial conclusion to their case, which will help them move forward. Lively and Baldoni decided to bury the hatchet, seemingly after presiding judge Lewis J. Liman urged both parties to revisit settlement discussions.

In the statement, the actress and director stressed that they decided to put all their differences aside to enable the brilliant work they did on “It Ends With Us” to shine. According to them, the production of the movie and the message behind it have been a source of pride to everyone involved, who worked tirelessly to bring it to life.

“Raising awareness, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors – and all survivors – is a goal that we stand behind,” the statement added. They also acknowledged that the months spent in court presented challenges and helped recognize that concerns raised by the actress deserved to be heard.

Attorneys In The Case Walked Away Smiling To The Bank

Aside from the shocking nature of the settlement, the actress also reportedly did not walk away with anything. However, it was a different ball game for the lawyers who represented them in court and basically pushed the case to the point of settlement because they earned millions from that gig.

On the issue of the case getting settled, New York litigation attorney Richard C. Schoenstein explained that the outcome for the case was always going to be the duo opting to settle, mainly due to the unpredictability of the jury. The Blast shared that the legal expert added that some embarrassing facts about the duo may also become public knowledge if they head for trial, and they would not want that.

According to Schoenstein, the actress might have encountered a roadblock in proving that she was retaliated against, alongside convincing the judge to award her the damages she requested for. The legal expert added that mediation towards a resolution in the case had begun since February, although they did not make any progress until May 4.

Blake Lively’s Treatment From Hollywood During The Legal Feud

While the drama went down in the courtroom, the actress was also getting a fair share of the clapbacks outside, especially within the Hollywood circle. 

Behind the scenes, sources say Hollywood studios maintained a very obvious distance as the controversy surrounding the alleged on-set issues continues to linger. One insider reportedly described the actress as being viewed like a “persona non grata” within certain industry circles.

However, no attempt was made to blacklist her, but journalist Paula Froelich’s declaration is that the hesitation to do away with her once and for all is more about optics than formal action. 

Froelich explained that agents and studio executives are simply reluctant to attach themselves to the situation while the legal drama remains unresolved.
