Britney Spears won’t be facing jail time for her DUI arrest.

The singer, referred to as the “Princess of Pop,” was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in March and could have faced severe consequences.

Fortunately, Britney Spears dodged a bullet by copping a plea deal that allowed her to escape with less punishment for the crime.

According to new reports, Spears had her DUI charges dropped on the morning of Monday, May 4, after accepting a plea deal from prosecutors. Her lawyer, Michael Goldstein, confirmed the news, saying:

“Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct. She has taken significant steps to implement positive change.”

Goldstein told TMZ that Spears’ efforts to change had moved the Ventura County District Attorney, leading to their decision to reduce the charge in the singer’s case. He added that Spears “appreciates this discretion and is also grateful for the outpouring of support she has received.”

The terms of the plea deal saw Spears’ DUI charge dismissed after she agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge. She pled guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and/or drugs in exchange for being placed on a 12-month probation.

The deal also gave Spears credit for her time spent in custody, but she still has to complete a DUI class and pay some state-mandated fines and fees. She was first hit with a misdemeanor count of DUI involving a combination of alcohol and a drug or drugs last Thursday.

The outlet reported that the charge was leveled against Spears on the same day she got out of rehab. She was photographed in the passenger’s seat of a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, her feet over the dashboard and pressed against the windshield, as a chauffeur drove.

Sources told the outlet that Spears was doing great after her 3-week rehabilitation, noting she was healthy and sober. They added that people in her circle had hoped she would stay longer at the facility, but she ultimately chose to leave.

The Blast previously reported that she had a high chance of escaping the DUI charge if she copped a “wet reckless” deal. The resolution, per officials, was typically granted to individuals who showed “self-motivation to address underlying issues through rehabilitation or a drug and alcohol treatment program.”

On that note, Spears chose to enter a rehabilitation program, with a source crediting her two sons for playing a key role in her decision. “They’ve been clear with her. They just want her to be healthy,” the source shared, adding that Spears had been frightened of jail time.

Following news of Spears’ DUI arrest, The Blast reported in March that sources had weighed in on her situation. One source noted that the “Oops!… I Did It Again” hitmaker’s friends and loved ones hoped she would be healthy and stable, but they couldn’t force her to do anything.

A second source alleged that Spears’ loved ones had seen the arrest coming, claiming they were relieved that no one got hurt during the incident. Another insider shared that Spears had been struggling behind the scenes following her divorce from Sam Asghari.

The insider explained that Spears had been spending a lot of time by herself since the separation, which led her to make “bad choices.” The insider added that Spears felt “invincible,” particularly after escaping her conservatorship, and “for a while, she felt like there were no real consequences.”

Last month, The Blast shared that Spears’ two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, had made headlines for the wrong reasons. A source accused them of overindulging in their mother’s absence, claiming they moved into her home while she was in rehab.

According to the source, the duo moved into Spears’ mansion as if they owned the place and began coming and going as they pleased, driving her expensive cars and more. They stressed that Sean and Jayden’s behaviors were not subtle, as they enjoyed the perks of their mother’s successful career.

The source implied there was more to Sean and Jayden’s actions, pointing out that they had pushed Spears to enter rehab only to begin living lavishly in her absence. At the time, Spears’ rep stated she was entering rehab to get the help and support she needed.
