Another unforgettable performance came in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction,” where he portrayed crime boss Marsellus Wallace.

Ving Rhames’ Golden Globes Gesture Became A Defining Moment

One of Rhames’ most memorable moments came off-screen during the 1998 Golden Globe Awards.

After winning the Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his role in “Don King: Only in America,” he made a surprising and heartfelt gesture that left a lasting impression.

“Stanislavsky said, ‘Love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art,’” he told the audience, before calling legendary actor Jack Lemmon to the stage.

Rhames then handed over his award, saying, “I feel that being an artist is about giving and I’d like to give this to you, Mr Lemmon.”

Lemmon responded emotionally, calling it one of the sweetest moments he had ever experienced and praising Rhames’ performance.

Reflecting on the moment earlier this year, Rhames told Gold Derby, “That’s something that God laid on my heart in the moment. I didn’t know Jack Lemmon,” emphasizing how spontaneous the decision was.

He later shared that the two eventually met again and had dinner together before Lemmon’s passing. Although Lemmon kept the original award, the Golden Globes organization later sent Rhames another trophy.
