A new magazine cover featuring a painted portrait of Prince William is drawing mixed reactions online as fresh reports claim he is preparing a major “internet mop-up.” The Prince of Wales is being accused of attempting to reshape his public image ahead of his eventual accession.

The debate comes as King Charles III and Queen Camilla are in the United States for a high-profile visit. It also coincides with renewed scrutiny over William’s stance on Prince Andrew, including claims he pushed for his uncle to be fully removed from royal life.

Prince William’s New Look Triggers Debate

William is at the center of online debates after a painted portrait of him was unveiled as the cover for the June issue of Tatler Magazine. The feature, titled “William, a King-in-waiting,” presents a stylized image of the Prince of Wales created by Nigerian artist Oluwole Omofemi.

The artist emphasized William’s blue eyes against a bright yellow backdrop. The future monarch also appeared clean-shaven in the artwork, a noticeable shift from the bearded look he has worn in recent years.

Reaction to the portrait has been mixed, with several people focusing on what they saw as subtle changes to the Prince’s appearance.

Fans React To ‘Fuller Hair’ In William’s Portrait

Some observers also noted what appeared to be fuller hair in the painting, with critics saying they would have preferred a more realistic depiction.

“It’s hard to tell with the words written on top of his head. But it looks like Will has been given some extra hair on top. I’m a little disappointed the artist made that choice,” one Reddit user wrote.

Another added, “William has always held himself with such dignity that he exudes strength and confidence, hair or no hair. And when your wife looks as beautiful as Catherine, Princess of Wales, he really doesn’t need hair added in post.”

A third commenter echoed the sentiment, writing, “They gave him more hair than he currently has. William is awesome though.”

William is reportedly looking to carry out a major “internet mop-up” as he moves closer to the throne. According to Radar Online, the Prince of Wales is seeking to remove or downplay older images of himself as part of a broader effort to present a more carefully managed public image.

That includes a resurfaced photo from when he was 18, showing him scrubbing a toilet while volunteering in a remote Chilean village with Raleigh International. The image has drawn renewed attention in recent weeks.

“There is a growing recognition that as William gets closer to the crown, every image and narrative associated with him is being reassessed,” a source said.

William Called Andrew To ‘Offer Condolences’ After Title Loss

William has been seen as a steady figure within the monarchy despite ongoing controversies surrounding the royal family.

Much of that scrutiny has centered on Prince Andrew and his links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The fallout led to Andrew being stripped of his royal titles and stepping back from public duties.

Reports have also claimed William supported efforts to distance his uncle from royal life, with some suggesting he pushed for a more decisive response at the time.

However, royal author Robert Hardman writes in his book “Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story” that William still reached out privately.

According to the account, he called Andrew on the night the titles were removed to “offer condolences,” a gesture that reportedly left the former duke “very touched,” per PEOPLE.

William Sees Harry As ‘Untrustworthy’

William is also said to be maintaining distance from his younger brother, Prince Harry, amid their ongoing rift. The strained relationship follows the Duke and his wife, Meghan Markle, making a series of damaging allegations against the royal family after stepping back from their roles in 2020.

While reports of a possible reconciliation between Harry and King Charles continue to surface, William is not believed to be open to repairing ties at this stage. British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard told Fox News Digital that the Prince of Wales is “done with drama” and has chosen not to engage.

“This feels like a permanent royal reset,” Chard said. “But William’s silence isn’t a mystery. It’s a strategy.”

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams also told the outlet that William now sees Harry as “totally untrustworthy.”
