Tristan Thompson is ready to take charge of his brother, Amari Thompson‘s, well-being!

The basketballer has now officially filed for conservatorship of his younger brother, who is battling with a severe form of childhood epilepsy that leads to multiple seizures.

Tristan Thompson was previously granted legal guardianship of Amari Thompson in 2024 after their mother, Andrea Brooks, passed away unexpectedly in January 2023.

Tristan Thompson’s Latest Legal Endeavor Involving Amari Thompson

The athlete approached the court with a request to become his younger brother’s limited conservator on Monday. According to Tristan, Amari is currently unable to properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter.

He added that his brother also suffers from an intellectual disability and developmental delay. Tristan stated that Amari is currently not in a position to manage his financial resources effectively or to resist fraud or undue influence. 

The basketballer emphasized that his sibling would be unable to pick a conservator on his own due to his intellectual instabilities. As stated by Page Six, Amari’s Lennox-Gastaut syndrome comes with symptoms like permanent brain damage, which leads to learning difficulties and other disabilities.

Amari Thompson Was Once A Reality TV Star

The world may have caught a few glimpses of Amari on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” when Tristan’s ex, Khloé Kardashian, assumed the role of his primary caretaker in 2025.

Khloé had explained in her “Khloé in Wonderland” podcast that Amari cannot walk or talk, and she decided to become responsible for him due to her ex-boyfriend’s hectic schedule. The mother of two stressed that it would be unhealthy for Amari to move around with Tristan, hence the reason why she needs to stay grounded.

Khloé added that she and her kids enjoy Amari’s company, and it was important for him to be around them to teach them compassion, empathy, and a proper understanding of how to treat everyone with kindness. The reality star continued that she hired two caregivers to be on standby for Amari, all because she intends to provide him with the most beautiful life he deserves.

In Tristan’s 2024 filing, he explained that he has been providing support and maintenance to the 19-year-old since their mother passed away. He claimed that Amari’s father, Trevor Thompson, has been actively absent from his life since their late mother received sole custody and a support order against him in 2014.

The Blast stated that Tristan stated that Trevor has never fulfilled any of his expected obligations towards Amari and has been avoiding them. According to the basketballer, Amari’s father has abandoned the 19-year-old and failed to pay any child support despite the court instructing him to do so.

The athlete stressed that due to his long-standing disposition towards Amari, it may be valid to say he has given up all his rights to have a say in how Amari’s case is handled. Tristan’s account seemed to tally with that of the Department of Children and Family Services [DCFS] in Los Angeles, who reportedly found no errors in their investigation.

Tristan Was Slammed For Defaulting On Child Support Payments

While Tristan attacked Trevor for failing to come through on the child support payment for Amari, he was also accused of failing to do the same for his child with Jordan Craig. As noted by The Blast, Jordan claimed that the athlete owed nearly $250,000 in child support payments.

Jordan urged the court to garnish Tristan’s salary from the Cavaliers until his debt of $80,000 to her is fully paid. She added in the filing that Tristan began reneging on his court-ordered $40,000 per month payment in November 2022.

According to her, the athlete had either been making partial payments or completely missing the payments for lengthy periods. She revealed in the documents that his highest payment was $29,000 in August 2023. In Jordan’s words, “It is my belief that Tristan signed a ‘veteran’ minimum contract with the Cavaliers that pays him $2.7 million per year. The $80,000 I request is certainly less than half of his monthly salary.”

The business mogul stressed that she wanted to showcase the beautiful moments the dancers have with special needs children and how much work they put into bringing the best out of these people.
