Lisa Kudrow is clarifying some gray areas behind the scenes of the hit sitcom “Friends.”

The actress is revealing the truth about some things that happened on the set of the hit series were not as happy-go-lucky as their characters interpreted them on the screen.

Lisa Kudrow rose to international fame for her role as Phoebe Buffay in the famous sitcom, which aired from 1994 to 2004, earning her several awards, including Primetime Emmy Awards, among others.

The actress revealed that life when the camera is turned off usually looked toxic, as some of the cast often engaged in sexual talk about some of her co-stars. Kudrow added that the off-camera environment can be mean and brutal due to the pressure of performing in front of a sizable live audience. 

She added that the writers were not necessarily nice to these actors when they were delivering their lines wrongly or if a joke failed to make the audience laugh. Kudrow reminded guests that they also had to perform in front of a live audience of 400 people, and if they did not get the perfect response, they would not receive favorable comments.

In the interview with The Times of London, she also brought forward claims of sexual allegations against roughly 12 to 15 staffers, who were mostly men who would stay up late discussing sexual fantasies involving Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox.

Kudrow went further to explain that despite the ugly memories that accompanied her time on the show, she still loves and cherishes working with the late Matthew Perry.

Allegations of sexual misconduct struck the movie set in 2004 when former writers’ assistant Amaani Lyle sued Warner Bros Television. The legal drama happened over alleged sexual and racial harassment after she reportedly witnessed inappropriate conduct in the writers’ room.

Lyle’s court case eventually advanced to the California Supreme Court, where a ruling was made against her. Kudrow concluded her account with a strong statement that no matter their acting endeavors in the future, it will be impossible to replicate the greatness that happened on the set of “Friends.”

In another part of the same interview, the 63-year-old shared that over two decades after they drew the curtain on the show, the team is still cashing out. According to Kudrow, she and her co-stars still earn about $20 million in residuals every year.

“After Matthew died, I watched the show again. Before, I only saw what I did wrong or could have done better. But for the first time, I truly appreciated just how great it was,” the actress stressed. She also has positive reviews about Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox’s characters and how they portrayed them. 

Kudrow also praised David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc’s hilarious work as Ross Geller and Joey Tribbiani, respectively. While the show was going on, the six co-stars were friends off camera and famously went from earning $22,500 per episode during Season 1 to $1 million per episode during Seasons 9 and 10.

Despite rubbing shoulders with giants on the show, Kudrow noted that she still felt unseen and sidelined from the show when it comes to getting attention and opportunities. As noted by The Blast, the actress revealed that nobody cared about her and her agency suggested that she was even seen as less marketable than her co-stars.

As the show climbed up the ladder, the actress noticed that her co-stars were being positioned for high-profile roles in the industry, and these benefits did not flow to her. She added that her character also lacked long-term potential, and the industry did not know what to do with her.

Kudrow stressed that her success was mostly attributed to luck by outsiders and not because of the hard work she had put in over the years. The real breakthrough moment for her came when she starred alongside Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal in the 1999 comedy “Analyze This.”
