The man responsible for Taylor Swift‘s canceled Vienna concert in 2024 seems to be taking the high road.
Almost two years ago, three of the pop star’s performances in Austria were tanked after it was discovered that a man had plotted an attack at one of the concerts. Now, as the case has finally seen its day in court, the attacker owns up to the charges, pleading guilty.
The cancellation of Taylor Swift’s shows during her Eras Tour left many fans disappointed. The artist later expressed that despite the disappointment, she was grateful no lives were lost.
Taylor Swift’s Concert Terrorist Says ‘It Was The Biggest Mistake Of His Life‘

In 2024, three of Swift’s performances scheduled for August 2024 in Vienna, Austria, were canceled after the authorities got intel about a brewing attack. The man accused of plotting to attack one of the singer’s shows and pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group was apprehended and has been in custody for nearly two years now.
The defendant, a 21-year-old Austrian citizen known as Beran A., in line with Austrian privacy rules, is currently facing charges. The charges against him include terrorist offenses and membership in a terrorist organization. Beran A. pled guilty as his trial began on Tuesday, April 28.
Anna Mair, his defense attorney, stated that her client pleaded guilty to the charges related to the concert plot. Austrian media outlets also report that he pleaded guilty to being a member of a terrorist organization. As reported by The Daily Mail, Mair spoke to outlets outside the court on behalf of her client, expressing that he regrets his actions.
“Of course, he deeply regrets it all, he says it was the biggest mistake of his life,” she shared. Beran A is facing other charges besides the ones in connection with the concert plot. He and two other men have been charged for planning to carry out simultaneous attacks in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Turkey. He pleaded not guilty to these charges.
Beran A. Allegedly Planned To ‘Kill As Many People As Possible’

Beran A. allegedly planned to attack the onlookers gathered outside Ernst Happel Stadium, where the “Love Story” singer was supposed to perform. If his plans came to fruition, the effect would have been devastating as the stadium had up to 30,000 people outside each night, with another 65,000 inside the venue.
He planned to have his way with knives and homemade explosives. With this information, he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison. Authorities commented in 2024, saying “the suspect planned to kill as many people as possible.” Even though the plan was thwarted thanks to U.S. intelligence, Austrian authorities still thought it best to cancel the concerts.
The Vienna plot drew comparisons to a 2017 attack by a suicide bomber at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England. The attack was labeled the deadliest extremist attack in the United Kingdom in recent years, as the bomb detonated at the end of Grande’s concert as thousands of young fans were leaving, claiming 22 lives.
The ‘Blank Space’ Singer Was Grateful No Lives Were Lost

Swift held her silence for weeks and addressed the foiled terror plot later in August 2024. She expressed in a lengthy social media post that she felt sad about the canceled show, especially for her fans who had made plans to attend only to leave disappointed. However, she added that she “was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”
The pop star added that with the knowledge of the planned Vienna attack, she made it a point of duty to work with her team and the British authorities to ensure her shows, which followed in London, were extra safe for the attendees. The Blast reported that Swift explained the reason for her long silence about the event.
“Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows,” Swift wrote in her statement. “In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to,” the pop star noted before adding that finishing her European tour safely.
Chris Martin Gave Swifties A Taste Of What They Missed In Vienna

After Swift’s shows were canceled in Vienna, leaving many fans disappointed, Martin took it upon himself to honor the “Ophelia” vocalist during one of his performances in Vienna, coincidentally at the same arena as Swift’s canceled concerts. Martin paid homage to the Swifties with a rendition of her hit 2008 song “Love Story,” and the stadium lit up with cheers, loud, excited screams, and applause from fans.
The video of the moment went viral, with many netizens praising the performer for the gesture. As reported by The Blast, many fans flooded the comments writing kind words about how Martin’s performance of Swift’s hit song gave many a glimpse at the experience they hoped for before the show got canceled.
“Chris is such a good dude,“ a fan wrote, while another added, “Awesome and appreciated by those who missed out.” Someone else declared, “I’ve ALWAYS loved Chris Martin, but I can’t believe he dedicated yet another song to her, and IT’S HER OWN THIS TIME. This makes me cry. I really hope she sees this!” Martin had previously done a tribute to the Grammy winner with “Everglow” in July of that year.
Taylor Swift Is Presently Making Moves To Protect Her Brand

The singer is filing trademarks that cover her voice and likeness to protect her brand against deep fakes that damage her reputation. With her highly successful career, Swift does not want to take chances with any form of misrepresentation, as the use of AI becomes more popular.
The Blast shares that Taylor Swift’s company, TAS Rights Management, LLC, filed three trademark applications to protect her voice and image on April 24. The news made its way to the internet after trademark attorney Josh Gerben posted an update on his blog. Gerben noted that the filings are specifically intended to protect against the use of AI, as concerns about unauthorized artificial intelligence to generate content online loom.
The singer has reportedly filed three applications: one for her image and two for her voice. Although people with top status are already protected by “Right of Publicity” laws, filing these trademarks offers “an additional layer of protection.” Gerben also shared that with this, the singer can challenge content that is “confusingly similar” to her voice and image.
Which way will the Vienna terror plot case go, and will Taylor Swift address the new development?
