Jeremy Renner Served As Mentor To Hailee Steinfeld on 'Hawkeye' Set

According to Anthony Mackie, the first rule of Marvel is that you don’t talk about Marvel. That may have been one of the first lessons that Marvel movie veteran Jeremy Renner gave to co-star Hailee Steinfeld. The two have been working hard on the set of the new Hawkeye series that is looking to build on the recent Marvel series successes. In a recent interview, Renner talked about how we felt protective of Steinfeld. Although he didn’t talk about the contents of the series much he did give away minor details of what we could expect to see.
The Elder Statesmen On Set
Renner’s been probably begging to have a crack at a Hawkeye stand-alone story for years. So much so that, now that he got the chance, he was very active making sure everything would go as planned. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he talked about his multiple roles on set saying,
“That was always my role. Outside of acting in the thing, I was protecting her and giving her the CliffsNotes on how it goes with this kind of filmmaking”

Working The Green Screen

Many respected filmmakers like Martin Scorsese have publically criticized Marvel’s moving making ways. Simple or not, Renner takes them very seriously. He talked about how he put a lot of time into showing Steinfeld how to work the green screen saying,
“Green screen, superhero life, all that stuff,” then saying about Steinfeld, "I just wanted to protect her, because there's a lot of physical stuff. She's a wonderful actress, a wonderful human”
Although Renner didn’t exactly say much about what we could expect to see in the series, special effects and actions sequences are probably on the menu! Why else would you get physical on a green screen, right?
Steinfeld Was Held To The “Don’t Talk About Marvel” Standard
As we mentioned, Anthony Mackie said it best when he described that the first rule of Marvel was to not talk about it. This is something that Steinfeld had to deal with firsthand. She wasn’t even able to tell close friends that she was part of a Marvel project. When she was able to finally speak about it, she mentioned it felt so good to finally be able to talk about it. The folks at Marvel must have a strict NDA. Wonder how many fines Tom Holland has had to pay them for breaking it!
What We Know About The Story
The Hawkeye series is probably going to be a little more down-to-earth than some of the latest Marvel series. With the comic book company, though, you never know. What we do know is that Steinfeld is going to play the role of Kate Bishop, who is a major Hawkeye fan. Renner is going to finally get a lead role as the character. The duo then will go on a couple of adventures. The series is set to debut on Disney Plus on November 24. That’s when we’ll really start getting answers.
