Many former cast and crew members from Siegfried & Roy’s show at The Mirage packed The Neon Museum Neon Boneyard for the event on Friday night. Stories and hugs were shared all around.

The sculpture had a bit of a journey to its new home. It was removed from its original location in January 2025 and transported to Hartlauer Signs for restoration in December 2025. Through a collaboration between The Mirage and Hard Rock International, with additional support from The PENTA CARES Foundation and The Neon Museum’s Sign Conservation Fund, it was donated in 2024.

Aaron Berger, The Neon Museum’s executive director and CEO, shared some words before lighting the sculpture up with the help of Lynette Chappell, former cast member known as “The Evil Queen.”

After thanking everyone for attending and for continued support of The Neon Museum, Berger talked about the many stories living on and explained how visitors of The Neon Museum can share their stories with R.A.C.H.E.L. (Record and Collect Historical Experiences in Las Vegas), an audio booth devoted to preserving stories of Vegas’ past.

Chappell said a few words to the adoring crowd before flipping the light switch to turn on the sculpture’s crystals.

“This is absolutely unbelievable to see so many old faces, oh no, excuse me, familiar faces,” she said.

“This is not just a statue. I see this as magic, memories, and family. Everybody here has a Siegfried & Roy story. Everybody. And I have five decades of 24/7, so there’s a couple of stories I have too. Over 50 years, Siegfried & Roy didn’t just create a show, they created a world and all of us, cast, crew, dreamers, we were all lucky enough to live in that world. We weren’t just colleagues, we were family. Looking out today to see so many of you, I’m reminded that the magic never ended, it lives on and every life that they touched, touched us and we will live with that forever.”

She continued her speech talking about how Siegfried & Roy gave them “extraordinary lives, filled with wonder, purpose, and a touch of the impossible.”

When Chappell said “everybody” has a Siegfried & Roy story to share, she truly meant it. Back in 2024, The Mirage took to Instagram to talk about the popular sculpture.

“For decades, Siegfried & Roy enchanted audiences at the Mirage with their spellbinding illusions and charismatic stage presence,” the caption reads. “Their bond with the resort was inseparable, making the statue not just a tribute but a poignant reminder of their extraordinary journey together.”

Many fans dropped into the comments to share their memories and love for the duo and the resort.

“My first visit to Vegas I saw and loved this statue and was inspired to stay at the Mirage for my 2nd Vegas visit (and only other Vegas visit.). Loved Mirage, very novel and special vibe unmatched on the strip!” one person wrote. Another added, “I can’t believe the Mirage is going away what a Classic hotel. What a great vibe it had.”

One other fan wrote, “My favorite part of Vegas, SARMOTI forever. The magic is inside all of us & our greatest dreams fulfilled at The Mirage.”

Another viewer shared a memory that will last a lifetime, “We were walking thru the secret garden with our kids a few years ago and few days after Christmas and Siegfried was hanging out and talking with guest, he even did a magic trick on my son and gave him a gold coin. Special memories.”

Many took to the comments to ask what will happen to the sculpture and if it will be rehomed, and now thanks to The Neon Museum, they finally have their answer.

So Many People Have Fond Memories Of The Mirage

Hard Rock Las Vegas

The Hard Rock guitar, currently being built in the spot The Mirage’s iconic volcano once was, stands out on the Strip no matter what direction you’re coming from. The resort is scheduled to open in late 2027.

The Mirage opened in November 1989 and was different than anything else on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. The resort, developed by Steve Wynn, closed its doors for the last time in July 2024 to make way for the new Hard Rock Las Vegas to begin construction.

Known for being the home of Siegfried & Roy from 1990 until 2003, as well as the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat until 2022, and the free volcano show, the news of The Mirage closing hit many hard.

When The Mirage’s Instagram page shared a post on the day they closed, many took to the comments to share their memories.

“Today, at 11 AM, we concluded the operations of The Mirage Hotel & Casino. As we close our doors, we reflect with deep gratitude upon our guests and visitors who graced The Mirage, experiencing the pioneering spirit of the Las Vegas Strip’s inaugural mega-resort,” the resort wrote on IG. “For 34 years, the dedicated team at The Mirage delivered exceptional service, shaping the very essence of our property. To them, we extend our heartfelt thanks for their unparalleled commitment and the enduring memories they have helped create for all. Thank you for everything.”

One person wrote, “The Mirage was the best – from the Volcano and atmosphere outside to the rainforest dome in the lobby. The theming was so well done. Thank you to everyone who worked at the Mirage these past 34 years.” Another said, “Thanks for decades of memories!”
