During a new interview, the 41-year-old spoke about his role as a Royal, acknowledging that he’d always have duties as a public figure due to the family he was born into. While speaking with ITV on Friday, April 24, Prince Harry said he’d “always be part of the royal family” despite the challenges they’ve faced over the last several years. His statement came after a reporter asked the public figure whether he agreed with being referred to as “not a working royal.”

“No. I will always be part of the royal family,” the “Spare” author replied. “I am here working doing the things that I was born to do.”

Prince Harry went on to say that he values the service he can provide to others in his role. “I enjoy coming to do these trips and supporting that I’ve ever before, the friends that I’ve made, and hopefully, bringing attention to issues that, for one reason or another, drop out of the news because something else has popped up,” he said.

Days later, Queen Elizabeth issued an unusual statement, revealing that the married couple would be placed on a one-year probationary period while the monarchy fully defines their roles.

“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family,” the statement read. “Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”

The Blast reported that Prince Harry could return to life as a full-time royal over the next few years; however, he’d be required to completely forego the life he’s built for himself and his wife.

A source shared that the most practical way back into the fold would require the public figure to not only walk back certain claims, but also apologize to King Charles and his brother, Prince William. The insider further claimed that divorcing Markle could be what the monarchy sees as the “traditional Windsor error-correction route.”

It’s unclear whether Prince Harry will actually follow through, given that the philanthropist previously said he hoped to avoid life in the public eye after the loss of his mother, Princess Diana, in August 1997.
