Caroline Mattox, the TPUSA chapter president at UGA, has stepped down from her role in a move that is now raising questions about Erika Kirk‘s leadership.

In her resignation statement, Mattox said the nonprofit led by the mother of two has lost its direction and no longer aligns with the principles on which it was founded.

Erika Kirk has yet to respond to the resignation, but it has already begun drawing criticism, with some claiming she is damaging her husband Charlie Kirk‘s legacy.

Following Erika Kirk’s no-show at a TPUSA event at the University of Georgia, Caroline Mattox, the student who leads the organization’s chapter at the school, has stepped down from her role.

Her resignation may not have drawn much attention, if not for the explanation she offered, in which she cited concerns about the organization’s direction and leadership.

In the statement, Mattox also noted that she came to this realization following the TPUSA Georgia event, which has already drawn negative attention online due to Erika’s absence and the reportedly low turnout.

“Turning Point USA was founded to promote truth, fight for conservative values, encourage independent thought, and defend free speech,” Mattox wrote.

“However, it became abundantly clear to me following our event on April 14th that TPUSA’s mission and purpose have been lost along the way,” she continued. “It became evident to me that the organization’s current direction no longer aligns with the principles upon which it was founded.”

Elsewhere in her statement, Mattox doubled down on her claim that the organization has lost its way, saying, “I have significant concerns about its messaging and current trajectory.”

For this reason, she said she could no longer maintain her position as president of the TPUSA Georgia chapter.

Mattox went on to reflect on the time Charlie was in charge prior to his death, comparing it to the organization now under Erika’s leadership.

She wrote that the late right-wing influencer prioritized truth over numbers, appearances, or relevance.

According to the student leader, she believes that Charlie would not “stand for the blatant dishonesty now being spread by the organization that he built.”

She then concluded with a phrase from Charlie, calling on others to “stand for what is right, even if you stand alone.”

In the comment section, several netizens supported Mattox for her decision to resign.

“Always stand for what is right.. even if you have to stand alone. Courage. Proud of you,” one wrote.

“Brave! When everyone decides to administer the truth, a society can redeem itself, no matter how bad things become. The US could use more honest and brave people like you,” another individual commented.

“You are doing what is right. Charlie is probably rolling over in his grave watching the woman he called his wife ruin his mission, vision, and values. It’s truly a shame,” one more individual shared.

On the flip side, Mattox’s remarks also drew criticism, with some pointing out that she did not provide enough explanation to support her claims that TPUSA has lost its way.

“‘Strayed so far from its original purpose’ – what does that mean? It would be more honoring to Charlie to mention specifics instead of just feelings,” one wrote.

Another user said, “Vague & emotional. A lot of words to say … basically nothing? No facts? No examples?”

For now, Erika has yet to respond to Mattox’s resignation but is expected to join Vice President JD Vance for another TPUSA event later this month.

The event is scheduled to take place at Iowa State University as part of the nonprofit’s “This Is the Turning Point” spring college tour.

Two days before that event, another TPUSA gathering will be held at the University of Idaho.

Unlike the Iowa State event, Erika is not scheduled to appear in Idaho. Instead, TPUSA will have speakers such as Michael Knowles and Matt Walsh addressing students.

More tour dates are expected to be announced in the coming days on the official tour site.

The widow’s upcoming visit to Iowa comes after she faced backlash over her proposed appearance at a school in northern Phoenix, Arizona.

The event was swiftly protested by students and parents who branded her message and organization “too extremist for a school.”

There were also security concerns, especially after Erika’s absence from a recent TPUSA Georgia event due to alleged threats to her safety.

The principal of the Phoenix school ultimately sent an email to parents saying that Erika and her team have chosen to move the event to a different venue.

“Ms. Kirk’s team, in collaboration with Club America and school and district administration, recommended that the event be moved to an offsite location after the school day,” Pinnacle High School President Jeremy Richards stated.
