“High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” sweetheart Olivia Rodrigo has been crushing 2021.

She shot to success, seemingly overnight, when she dropped her heartbreaking and gut-wrenching song, “Driver’s License.” She followed it up with bop, after bop, after bop.

She’s stayed at the top of the Billboard Charts for MONTHS, and as of June 1, all 11 songs from her debut album “Sour” have stayed in the top 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. Three of those songs being in the top 10!

To say she’s an accomplished singer/songwriter is an understatement.

She’s also in a new relationship, which fans are loving, because of the whole Joshua Basset, Sabrina Carpenter love triangle situation.

However, it looks like Olivia might be facing her first major controversy as a “high-profile” celebrity.

People across the Internet are accusing Olivia of putting on or speaking in a Black accent, aka, a “Blaccent.”

Twitter was able to resurface an Instagram Live stream on Wednesday, July 28, and pointed out her use of African-American Vernacular English (AAVE).

In the resurfaced video compilation, the ‘HSMTMTS’ star is speaking to various fans and having playful conversations.

“I be trippin.’ That’s crazy. Do I be trynin…” she says in one clip.

She continues to say, “We just emotional. That was a long a** time ago, we been apart for…”

One Twitter user posted the video and captioned it, “olivia rodrigo constantly uses AAVE and it is pissing me off. the blaccent…”

They followed it up with, “and if you think that’s all here is a bunch of tweets that make me cringe.”

Some of Olivia’s past tweets read, “homegirl went platinum in two weeks!!!!!!,” “I’m crine. Y’all are so talented. This is crazy” and “boy u best believe imma be watching u kill it as evan. This means the whole world. Feeling is so mutual!”

All of the tweets are from January or February 2020 and fans were displeased to say the least.

One person commented on the evidence, “She doesn’t sound like this when she sings big yikes.”

“This makes me really upset :( she needs to apologize and if you are a non black person you don’t have a say if it’s offensive,” another fan wrote.

However, others saw her using AAVE differently.

“There’s so many people that try to act black or do the ghetto accent, and they don’t do it as a joke, Olivia does it as a joke and it’s wrong bruh. If it was “wrong” then tell people to stop mocking the British accent or southern accent,” one retaliated.

Another defendant responded, “though i understand where everyone is coming from on this, i do believe a lot of this slang shes using is coming from social media (mostly tiktok) these days, and i feel like it’s adapted into so many ppls vocab. you cant stray from it :/ (coming from a black woman).”

Olivia has not yet responded to the accusations and backlash.
