Bryton James‘ estranged wife wants dollars for her troubles!

The actor’s former partner has one more thing to ask as they round up their divorce, which is that he pays a certain amount monthly for financial support and upkeep.

Bryton James and Jahaira James called it quits on their marriage three months after they got married in June 2025, when they separated, followed by a divorce filing in October 2025, blaming irreconcilable differences.

The divorce verdict of the former couple was decided less than a month ago when their marital status was legally terminated, with the final ruling establishing that neither party should pay spousal support. However, Jahaira has taken a 180 in relation to the status quo, requesting a change to the status quo, stating that her earnings as a professional dancer and performer are not enough to keep her afloat.

Jahaira declared that the implication of the unpredictable nature of her job, which mostly involves live shows, rehearsals, and tours, and brief contracts, is that she does not have a regular source of income. The dancer continued that maintaining longevity in her chosen field also comes with lots of y auditions, training, physical conditioning, not to mention unpaid rehearsal time and expenses such as rehearsal space and audition fees.

She says that she cannot yet make a living to support the standard of living that was created during the marriage without temporary spousal support. As reported by TMZ, Jahaira emphasized that she makes approximately $1,150 per week before taxes, while Bryton receives over $34K of gross income monthly.

Bryton sought to pull out of the union less than a year after saying “I do” to the dancer. After months of separation, he officially filed for divorce on October 13, 2025, in Los Angeles.

PEOPLE stated that the actor was previously married to Ashley Leisinger from 2011 to 2014, and gave marriage a try again four years after he confessed that he would not give it a thought during a podcast session. The media personality expressed in his filing that they do not share kids, and he would like to withdraw the court’s ability to award either of them spousal support. 

While their marriage lasted, Bryton was loud in his admiration for his other half, especially when it came to her career. He reportedly shared clips of Jahaira strutting her stuff on stage alongside Beyoncé during the Cowboy Carter tour in 2025.

The actor got candid on the “State of Mind with Maurice Benard” podcast in 2021 about the change in perspective he earned from his first walk down the aisle and how it has shaped his future decisions about getting married.

“I don’t think I’d get married again because I have different ideas about the institution of marriage and where it comes from and what it’s about. I’m not against it, but I just don’t think I would do it again,” the actor stressed. He added that he also learned a lot about himself during and after the marriage, especially how he truly feels about having kids.

While the actor has always known he did not want children, he got a solid conviction about it, and this has influenced the way he deals with people. Bryton admitted to being selfish with his time and expressed his preference for focusing on his personal and professional goals rather than raising a family.

Bryton broke out on “Family Matters” starring as Richie Crawford at the tender age of four. His wit and charm, despite his character always getting into mischief with neighbor Steve Urke, made him a favorite among the show lovers.

The Blast noted that after the TV show wrapped up production in 1998, he was cast as Devon Hamilton on “The Young and the Restless” in 2024. Bryton earned two Daytime Emmys for his role, and in 2021, he received another Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

As a young Devon on the show, he had to grow up in a foster home as a deaf kid and also struggled with the reemergence of his mother, Yolanda, discovering he has a younger sister named Ana. An adult Devon did not have it easier either because his wife, Hilary Curtis, lost a pregnancy in an accident and eventually died from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

Five years after his divorce from Ashley after three years of marriage, Bryton got together with his “Y&R” co-star Brytni Sarpi, who was also his love interest on the show in 2019. The duo remained a favorite among lovers of the show during the relationship and often posted images of their travels and life on social media.

The lovebirds even bought a house together in 2020, and unfortunately broke up in 2023, with the timing coinciding with Brytni’s departure from the main cast of the TV show. Bryton built more than just a romantic relationship from that show, as evident in his bond with Christel Khalil, who plays his sister Lily.

The two have remained good friends over the years, with Bryton as the godfather of her son. The actor also shared a tight bond with his on-screen dad, the late Kristoff St. John, and when Kristoff died in February 2019, Bryton posted a heartfelt tribute to his mentor on social media.
