Two years after his shocking climb up the side of the Sphere in Las Vegas, the man behind the viral stunt has finally learned his fate. What started as a jaw-dropping moment that took tourists and locals by surprise and lit up social media as it was happening has finally been put to rest with a verdict and a plea deal.

To add some confusion, just a week ago, another person was seen climbing the Sphere, but this time, it was a planned stunt that has “pro-life Spiderman” a bit disturbed.

Maison DesChamps was in court along with representatives from Sphere on Monday. According to KTNV, Judge Danielle Pieper sentenced DesChamps to a 364-day suspended sentence. He will serve 45 days in the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas and will be placed on probation for one year. He was also ordered to pay $77,270.32 in restitution to Sphere Entertainment Company.

In early February 2024, DesChamps, a self proclaimed skyscraper climber, was taken into custody after the dangerous and damaging stunt of climbing the Exosphere of one of Sin City’s most popular and unique structures.

As covered by The Blast, DesChamps shared footage of his climb on Instagram, sharing the reason he was doing the dangerous stunt.

“I’m here on top of the Sphere. I guess they’re gonna make me go through the top. I just wanted to say I’m doing this today to raise money for a mother named Isabel,” he said in his video as he’s standing on the top of the Sphere with a GoPro on his head. “She’s homeless and pregnant and needs help, guys.”

DesChamps also had a fundraising page going to try to raise money for Isabel.

“Maison DesChamps here, but you might know me better as the Pro-Life Spiderman. Today, my mission transcends the adrenaline rush of scaling skyscrapers; it’s about channeling our collective strength toward a cause far greater than any physical feat,” he wrote in his fundraising description. “In the spotlight of my climb today is Isabel, a brave soul currently navigating through life’s harshest storms, pregnant and facing uncertainty with every step.”

He also shared some of her story, saying Isabel found herself at a “crossroads” and needing to make a tough decision to adopt out three of her children and have an abortion.

An update was shared shortly after his stunt went viral. The first update reads, “We hit our goal of $25,000 for Isabel. I’m going to raise the goal to $35,000 to help cover other mom’s expenses that Let Them Live supports.” A second update explained, “We have just surpassed our second goal of $35,000. Let’s keep the momentum going and try to hit $50,000 for these women in crisis pregnancies.”

Maison DesChamps’ Sphere Stunt Cost More Than $100K In Damages

According to KTNV, in court on Monday, Jay Cline, vice president of event production for Sphere Entertainment, explained a little about the damages caused by DesChamps’ stunt.

“Immediately, we pulled security and broadcast camera footage. I have a broadcast camera on the four corners of the property to monitor the Exosphere. We also use security footage and we used some drone footage that we found on the Internet that was filming the incident,” Cline said. “We mapped out the climbing route the trespasser took to the top. And then, I deployed climbers and my own drone teams to assess the damage.”

While the original arrest report stated that there was approximately $100,000 in damages, Cline told the court that it was higher — $107,686.32. He explained that 280 LED pucks had to be replaced at $150 each, two metal LED carrier and LED wiring also had to be replaced, and there was also the cost of labor for the rope teams.

The Viral Climber Claims He Was ‘Blackmailed’ Into ‘Accepting A Plea Deal’

A few days ahead of DesChamps’ court date, he shared a post on Instagram about something that happened recently — another man climbed the Sphere.

“This isn’t me. Monday I’m going to jail for doing it 2 years ago. They lied about me, basically black mailed me into accepting a plea deal, they slander my nail through the papers,” he wrote on a photo of the news of someone else climbing the Sphere. “And now they steal my idea. Good job, Sphere Vegas.”

The Climber Shared More In His Caption

His caption explained more of his story.

“Can’t make this stuff up…. It’s not that I care if other people climb what I climb. It’s just don’t make a big deal about me doing it and then pay somebody else to steal my idea,” he wrote on IG. “They lied said I broke $100,000 in lights, they arrested me and five of my friends for felony conspiracy, then told me if I didn’t accept the plea deal they were gonna keep going after my friends. Haha #freespiderman.”

While DesChamps has some comments that support him, others challenge his thought process.
