Rex Heuermann‘s ex-wife, Asa Ellerup, has revealed that her serial killer ex-husband confessed to her that he murdered all but one of his eight victims in their Long Island home.

The revelation was made in a teaser clip previewing the final episode of the Peacock documentary “The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets,” which explores Heuermann’s murders and includes never-before-heard disclosures about his double life.

Asa Ellerup’s remarks contrast with an earlier claim in an earlier episode of the series where she stated police had the wrong man and that Rex Heuermann was not capable of the murders.

The final episode of the Peacock documentary “The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets” includes a major revelation about Rex Heuermann allegedly confessing to his murders to his ex-wife, Asa Ellerup.

In one scene from a teaser, Ellerup can be seen talking to the camera about the moment when she and Heuermann had the conversation about the murders during a jailhouse meeting.

“So, Mr. Heuermann, I understand that you are confessing to me on these murders — can you please tell me how many of these women did you kill?” Ellerup recalled, per the New York Post.

It is followed by another scene in which Ellerup tells her lawyer, Bob Macedonio, that Heuermann said he killed “eight women.”

At the time the scene appeared to have been recorded, Heuermann had only been charged with the murders of seven people, which prompted Ellerup’s lawyer to ask who the eighth victim was. However, Ellerup claimed she did not ask further.

Elsewhere, she also revealed that all but one of the killings allegedly took place in their home on Long Island, particularly in Heuermann’s room, though she said he told her she was never present when the murders occurred.

The revelation in the documentary marks a shocking turn from Ellerup’s earlier remarks in a previous episode.

At the time, she appeared to defend her ex-husband against the murder accusations, claiming he wasn’t capable.

“I know what bad men are capable of doing,” she said in a clip from the show. “I’ve seen it, and I’ve heard it from other men. Not my husband. You have the wrong man.”

Meanwhile, in the new teaser, Ellerup chose to refer to her ex-husband by name rather than using any endearing terms, a shift that contrasts with how affectionately she spoke about him in the previous episode.

“He’s my hero,” Ellerup said about Heuermann in the previous episode. “There were times where he was working, but I’d call him, and he would come by and pick me up.”

Outside of what is claimed in the documentary, Heuermann also allegedly confessed to the killings during his plea deal hearing.

He reportedly stated that he strangled each of the victims and admitted to dismembering them before wrapping their bodies in burlap and transporting them to locations where they were later dumped.

By accepting the plea deal, Heuermann is expected to serve three life sentences without parole in a federal penitentiary.

On June 17, he is scheduled to be sentenced and then transferred to prison, where he will begin serving his term.

Heuermann’s decision to accept a plea deal instead of going to trial came as a surprise, as he had previously maintained his innocence since his arrest.

However, according to his lawyer, Michael Brown, he may have changed his position following a ruling by Judge Timothy Mazzei allowing key DNA evidence collected by police to be presented in court.

This includes hair recovered from victims that were allegedly traced to Heuermann and members of his family, as well as genetic material from a discarded pizza box and soda can.

According to the New York Post, Heuermann’s lawyer Brown described the evidence against his client as “overwhelming.”

He then claimed that the serial killer chose to avoid a trial in part to spare his family from the distress of having the details of his gruesome crimes publicly examined, and also to prevent the victims’ families from going through the trial process.

“He certainly wanted to save the families of the victims the ordeal of going to trial, and coupled with saving his family, that ordeal — it was definitely a factor,” Brown stated.
