His death marked the end of a long journey that included stepping away from performing decades ago after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

In the days leading to his passing, Alan shared a quiet and emotional moment with his brother Merrill.

Reflecting on that time, Merrill told the public on Facebook, “My dear friends, Two days before my brother, Alan, passed, I was blessed to sit quietly with him. We talked as brothers do, heart to heart.”

Despite his condition, Alan still found moments of warmth. Merrill recalled, “He was struggling, but when I shared a joke or two, he found the strength to chuckle… and then he smiled.”

Alan Osmond Remembered As A Man Of Faith And Purpose

Alan’s life was defined not just by music, but by his deep sense of faith and dedication.

In his post, Merrill described the icon’s life in heartfelt terms, saying, “My brother has now stepped into the presence of our Father in Heaven with honor and peace. His life was not measured in years, but in love, sacrifice, and purpose.”

He went on to highlight Alan’s character, writing, “He lived it. He felt it. He shared it. He wanted me to tell you how much he loved you.”

Alan’s commitment extended beyond his family to those who followed his journey. According to Merrill, “He gave everything he had to the Lord, to his family, and to all of you. He truly was a missionary. He truly was a saint.”

The “One Bad Apple” singer shared another emotional moment from their final conversation, recalling, “Before he passed, I whispered one request to him. I asked him, when he gets there… please give my son Troy a big hug for me.”

According to the 72-year-old, Alan responded with a promise, and Merrill added, “And somehow… I believe that promise has already been kept.”

Even after his passing, Merrill said he continues to feel his brother’s presence, adding, “he has not left me. I have felt him.”

Alan’s Legacy With The Osmonds And Beyond

Alan played a key role in shaping one of music’s most recognizable family groups. As the oldest of the Osmond siblings, he helped lead the band from a young age, guiding his brothers as they rose to fame in the 1970s. He was known within the family as “No. 1,” reflecting his leadership role.

The group, which included brothers Wayne, Merrill, Jay, and later Donny, became a major force in entertainment.

Their upbringing in Utah, alongside siblings Virl, Jimmy, Tom, and Marie, created a strong family foundation rooted in music and performance.

Even siblings who were not part of the main lineup contributed. Virl, who was born nearly completely deaf, helped teach his brothers skills like tap dancing, showing how deeply music was woven into their lives.

Beyond entertainment, Alan also worked on meaningful initiatives, including helping create the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon, which raised billions for children’s hospitals, and founding the One Heart Foundation.
