Mindy Cohn proves that what is better than winning is winning again!
The “Facts of Life” star actress shared a recent health update, shedding light on the reason behind her absence on social media. This comes almost a decade after she went down a similar cancer battle path, emerging victorious eventually.
Mindy Cohn was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. She battled the illness with treatments for five years before going into remission. A part of life that has kept her going through these ordeals is her strong friendship support system.
Cancer’s Got Nothing On Mindy Cohn

Cohn has gone down a familiar tunnel and has seen the light at the end once again. She shared a health update with her fan base via an Instagram post announcing the reason behind her sudden disappearance from social media. She detailed that she had to deal with cancer once again, writing, “I have been off social media for a while ‘cuz i had to go kick cancer’s a-s” in a caption attached to a picture of herself in a hospital bed.
The actress had not kept fans in the loop with the recent health development, so the news came as a shock to many. Cohn expressed gratitude to her medical team, even mentioning her nurses by name and tagging her oncology surgeon in the post.
She noted that this health challenge would have been a bumpy ride without the help of the Providence Saint John’s Hospital staff. In addition to the healthcare providers who saw her through, the TV star thanked her friends who provided the extra-strong support system, noting that they have been her “advocates” and are always “ready to help.”

Cohn’s post, which had Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World” playing in the background, ended with a strong, reassuring message. Inside Mindy Cohn‘s Previous Cancer Battle

The comedian has been vocal about her previous cancer battle, sharing details from how she got the diagnosis to when she was finally in remission. It all began on one fateful morning in 2012 when Cohn decided to take a walk around her neighborhood in Los Angeles. She said that she got tired suddenly, couldn’t continue walking, and had to call for help. “This was before Uber was really a thing, so I texted my friend Helen Hunt and said, ‘Something’s wrong with me. I need help,’” the actress recalled.
She then had a doctor’s appointment, and a scan showed something in her breast. After getting a biopsy, it was revealed to be breast cancer, and treatment began shortly after. Soap Central reports that a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation followed the Hollywood star’s diagnosis. The initial cancer battle spanned five years, during which she leaned on her friends and parents for support, as she has no husband or kids.
Cohn also detailed that her initial cancer journey was no easy feat despite her optimistic personality. The cancer metastasized, kept spreading and coming back, leaving her drained, “frustrated and enraged.” As she goes through the rough patch again, the “Scooby-Doo” voice artist has turned to fellow Hollywood stars, Gregory Zarian and his husband John Stewart, as well as actress-writer Tara Karsian, for support.
How The 59-Year-Old Spent Her Early Recovery Days

While she did not explicitly disclose her plans for recovery in her recent Instagram post, the comedian gave a glimpse into how and where she spent her time after her first victory over cancer. At the time, Cohn chatted with PEOPLE at Beekman 1802 in Sharon Springs, New York, sharing details of her life there with her close friends.
Beekman 1802 is a mercantile of natural products that was developed by “Fabulous Beekman Boys” Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Dr. Brent Ridge. The actress gave a tour of the store and farmhouse where she spent time away from the hustle and tussle of L.A. as she focused on healing. At the time, Cohn told news outlets that she felt comfortable on the other side of the country and had become a family with Kilmer-Purcell and Ridge.
“We’re a family by choice. We will be family forever,” she said before adding, “We have a bond.” She also explained that helping them work on their brand was a gift, being away from everything, because it helped her heal. Her friends echoed similar thoughts, highlighting that their relationship had even become deeper during the cancer ordeal.
Mindy Cohn’s Godmother Duties

Cohn has never been married nor had any children, and little is known about her romantic relationship as she is not one to keep things private. She is a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ community and is a self-proclaimed “fag h-g.”
However, she often shares her close-knit friends in the industry who have now become family. Besides the ones earlier stated who have stood by her through her cancer journey, the comedian is close friends with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. An insider previously told US Weekly, “Mindy is good friends with them,” speaking of Cohn and the former couple.
It has also been revealed that the “Facts of Life” actress is a godmother to two of Jolie’s and Pratt’s six kids, including Shiloh. Cohn became close with the family through Jolie’s brother, James Haven, and remained a confidant of the mom of six throughout her marriage.
