Sarah Ferguson may have been out of sight for months, but she doesn’t seem to have been out of comfort.
The former Duchess of York has resurfaced in Austria, where she is reportedly lying low in a luxury retreat after more than seven months away from public view.
Ferguson’s quiet reemergence comes as renewed scrutiny builds over her past associations with Jeffrey Epstein, a controversy that has also continued to cast a long shadow over both her and her ex-husband, former Prince Andrew.
Sarah Ferguson Sighted In Austria

Ferguson has been spotted living a secluded, high-end lifestyle at an Alpine ski resort in Austria, more than 200 days after she was last seen in public.
According to The Sun, the 66-year-old was photographed arriving at a private chalet on Wednesday, stepping out of a blacked-out Mercedes with a notably guarded demeanor.
She was dressed in a blue coat and a white baseball cap shielding her hair, and carried a teal raffia tote bag as she made her way inside. The chalet she is reportedly staying in is said to cost upwards of £2,000 per night.
Ferguson’s prolonged absence from public view has aligned with renewed scrutiny following the release of files linked to Epstein, which reportedly detailed past exchanges between the two.
“Fergie has been keeping an incredibly low profile while high up in the Alps,” a source told the outlet.
Ferguson Is ‘Very Comfortable’ In ‘Exile’

Ferguson’s self-imposed exile doesn’t mean she’s unaware of the gravity of the situation surrounding her.
Since stepping away from public life, her ex-husband, former Prince Andrew, has also seen his standing dramatically diminished, including being forced out of Royal Lodge and stripped of key royal roles.
According to an insider, however, Ferguson may remain out of sight for the foreseeable future, choosing seclusion even as she adjusts to a more independent life.
“It’s the first time she has to fend for herself in two decades,” the source said. “She is alone but staying in a luxurious setting and is very comfortable.”
Sarah Ferguson Faces Pressure Over Epstein Ties

Despite retreating from public view, Ferguson continues to face growing pressure to address her past links to Epstein.
U.S. lawmakers have reportedly urged the former Duchess of York to testify about the nature of her personal and business relationship with Epstein, but she has yet to respond publicly.
Recently-released documents tied to the disgraced financier include a purported email exchange in which Ferguson allegedly referred to him as “my love” and thanked him for his generosity.
According to a source who spoke to The Sun, the impact of the revelations has been overwhelming.
“The Epstein Files have hit like a sledgehammer, and Sarah has not wanted to be seen by anyone,” the insider said. “She’s been effectively in hiding and can’t face up to what’s been happening.
Inside Ferguson’s Months-Long Disappearance

Ferguson has largely stayed out of sight in any official capacity since attending the funeral of the Duchess of Kent at Westminster Cathedral in September 2025. Months later, in December, she was briefly seen keeping a low profile in the backseat of a car while attending her granddaughter Athena’s christening in London.
Since then, her movements appear to have been deliberately understated. From her choice of location to the way she presents herself in public, everything points to a calculated effort to avoid recognition.
“She hasn’t been seen for a long time and has clearly wanted to keep it that way,” a source said, noting that even her outfit during her recent sighting seemed intentionally selected to help her blend in.
“The area is absolutely beautiful, and it’s very quiet most of the time, so it’s the perfect place for a high-profile figure such as her to lie low when the heat is on,” the insider added.
Authorities Would Face Legal Hurdles Reaching Sarah Ferguson

While Ferguson has not been accused of any criminal wrongdoing, calls continue to grow for her to address what she knew about Epstein.
For now, it remains unclear whether any authorities have attempted to contact her in Austria or formally request her cooperation. Given her reported location, investigators in the U.S. or U.K. would likely need to go through formal legal channels before compelling any testimony, including cross-border requests and official documentation.
The scrutiny also continues to surround her ex-husband, who stepped back from royal duties following the fallout from his association with Epstein.
