Singer-songwriter D4vd was arrested in connection with the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, the 14-year-old girl whose body was discovered in the trunk of a Tesla registered to the singer. The arrest comes more than a month after reports that D4vd was the “target” of a grand jury investigation regarding the case.
D4vd Was Arrested On Suspicion Of Murder
David Anthony Burke, professionally known as D4vd, is in police custody following his arrest on suspicion of murder in connection with 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernadez’s death. The 21-year-old singer is currently being held without bail at the Los Angeles Police Department.
The arrest follows a months-long investigation into Celeste’s murder, and according to sources, it was based on probable cause and evidence as opposed to an indictment, as reported by ABC. According to authorities, the case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for consideration of filing on April 20.
Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s Body Was Found In A Tesla
In early 2024, Celeste ran away from her home in California, and her family filed a missing persons report, noting that it wasn’t the first time the teen had run away. The teen’s last contact with her family was in May 2024 via a phone call, and they didn’t hear from her since then.
In September 2025, news broke that the decomposing body of a girl was found inside the trunk of an impounded Tesla, which was registered to D4vd. It took a few days to identify the remains as Celeste, but one of the details released to the public was that she had a tattoo on her finger that read, “Shhh…”
Based on the investigation, the Tesla was ticketed in late August for violating a 72-hour parking ordinance, and it was brought to a tow yard in September. A worker then alerted the authorities after noticing a foul smell from the vehicle.
The Teen’s Family Said She Was Dating Someone Named David

D4vd was on a world tour at the time of the discovery, but his team released a statement saying that he was “fully cooperating” with the investigation. Later, he canceled the remainder of his tour. As news spread, the singer moved out of the mansion he was renting in Los Angeles soon after authorities searched the home and collected pieces of evidence, including a computer.
More details emerged in the following weeks, with online users noticing that the singer had the same tattoo as Celeste on his finger. The teen’s family also spoke out, saying that Celeste had been dating an artist named David. One of the girl’s teachers also said Celeste was dating someone she met online.
D4vd’s friends also had the impression that the singer and Celeste were “romantically involved.” However, they thought the girl was a 19-year-old USC student, as she presented herself in that manner. They only found out about her real age when her murder was reported.
Online Sleuths Scrutinize D4vd’s Lyrics
It isn’t clear when or how D4vd and Celeste met, but in December 2023, one of his songs was leaked, and it mentioned a girl named Celeste. “Oh, Celeste / The girl with my name tattooed on her chest / Smell her on my clothes like cigarettes / I hear her voice each time I take a breath / I’m obsessed. Oh, Celeste.” However, it isn’t clear if he’s referring to Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
Online sleuths also examined D4vd’s 2022 song “Romantic Homicide,” in which he sings about killing someone. “In the back of my mind / I killed you / And I didn’t even regret it / I can’t believe I said it / But it’s true / I hate you,” he sang.
D4vd Was The ‘Target’ Of A Grand Jury Investigation
In February, unsealed court documents revealed that D4vd was the “target” of a grand jury investigation into the murder of Celeste. The documents also revealed more details about the teen’s death, with investigators concluding that she had been “deceased for several weeks” before her body was discovered.
D4vd’s family members, including his father, mother, and brothers, who were in Texas, were subpoenaed so they could provide “material and necessary” testimony for the investigation. Although some details were revealed, the grand jury proceedings remain confidential.
Celeste’s official cause of death has not been revealed due to a security hold placed on her autopsy results in November 2025, though more details may emerge following D4vd’s recent arrest.
