Pope Leo XIV has made it clear that he is not intimidated by the recent verbal attacks from the American president. Speaking with reporters while traveling to Algeria, the 70-year-old pontiff stated, “I have no fear of the Trump administration,” per The New York Times.

This response followed a fiery Truth Social post from Trump, who labeled the Pope as “WEAK on Crime” and criticized his handling of foreign policy.

Trump expressed frustration over Leo’s opposition to U.S. military actions in Venezuela and the administration’s stance on Iran, claiming that the Pope should “get his act together.” Trump even compared the pontiff unfavorably to his brother, Louis, whom the president praised for being “all MAGA.”

“I like his brother Louis much better than I like him, because Louis is all MAGA. He gets it, and Leo doesn’t!” he wrote

Despite these insults, Pope Leo maintained a calm demeanor, simply saying, “I’m sorry to hear that” regarding the president’s remarks. He emphasized that his mission is to spread the Gospel rather than engage in political combat, clarifying that his statements are not meant as personal attacks.

The president’s recent reaction to the pope stands as a stark contrast to his initial enthusiasm on the emergence of the latest Pope. Back in May 2025, Trump expressed pride following the historic election of Cardinal Robert Prevost as the first-ever American pontiff.

As The Blast reported, the president took to social media to congratulate the new Pope Leo XIV. At the time, Trump appeared satisfied with the conclave’s choice, noting that having a fellow American in the Vatican was a moment of significant national excitement.

“It is such an honor to realize that he is the first American Pope. What excitement, and what a Great Honor for our country. I look forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV. It will be a very meaningful moment!” Trump wrote.

The transition from the pope’s American roots to the global stage was accompanied by fascinating revelations about his heritage and family ties.

A genealogical research conducted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. revealed that Pope Leo XIV has deep connections to several high-profile figures in entertainment and politics.

Records confirmed that the pontiff is related to iconic singer Madonna as a ninth cousin, sharing a common lineage that dates back to the 1950s. These ancestral links also extend beyond the music industry, connecting the Pope to a diverse group of prominent Canadians and Americans through a common ancestor, Louis Boucher de Grandpre.

According to The Blast, this shared history means the religious leader is also related to stars like Angelina Jolie and Justin Bieber, as well as political figures including Hillary Clinton and both Pierre and Justin Trudeau.

While the Pope’s cultural connections to artists intrigued the public, the president’s own interactions with the arts have been far more controversial.

Trump and his wife recently attended the opening night of the musical “Chicago” at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

However, their appearance was met with a starkly divided reaction from the audience, who greeted the couple with a mixture of cheers and boos. The presence of the president at the theater reignited a fierce debate over his move to attach his own name to the legendary venue, per The Blast

This change, which shortens the name to the Trump-Kennedy Center, sparked outrage among critics who view the move as an attempt to overshadow the legacy of the former president.

The controversy surrounding the president’s influence on cultural landmarks naturally drew sharp criticism from some of the most prominent voices in the entertainment industry. Clooney, who has long traded barbs with the politician, recently escalated their feud after the actor and his family obtained French citizenship in 2025.

As reported by The Blast, while speaking to students at an Italian high school, Clooney accused the administration of committing a war crime by threatening to eliminate an entire nation during the current Middle East conflict.

However, in a quick retort, the president dismissed the actor’s accusations by mocking his professional talent, labeling his acting as “terrible” and his movies “awful,” per the blast.

Clooney was quick to respond to the personal insults, urging the leader to focus on global stability rather than “infantile name-calling.”
