George Clooney‘s craft will not be a talking point for President Donald Trump, not if he can help it.

The actor is advising the politician to focus on the ongoing tension in the international system with America at the helm of it, rather than mock his talent.

George Clooney and Donald Trump have not exactly hidden their lack of admiration towards each other, often trading words in the media, for instance, when the actor and his family acquired their French citizenship in 2025.

The actor had declared to students in an Italian high school earlier this week that Trump is currently committing a war crime by threatening to wipe out a whole country in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Trump, in his response, took a jab at the actor on Wednesday, April 8, stating that his acting was terrible and his movies were awful.  “Families are losing their loved ones. Children have been incinerated. The world’s economy is on a knife-edge. This is a time for vigorous debate at the highest levels. Not for infantile name-calling,” George began.

As noted by US Magazine, he added that Trump indeed committed a war crime by showing intent to physically destroy a nation according to the definition of the Genocide Convention and the Rome Statute. He questioned the administration’s defense against his defense, stressing that the failed actor makes no sense, having starred in “Batman and Robin” alongside other successful productions.

On New Year’s Eve, the president made a post on social media mocking George and his wife becoming French citizens, describing them as “two of the worst political prognosticators of all time.” As noted by The Blast, Trump slammed George’s choice of sticking with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who are, according to him, “going to lead the Democrats to their future defeat.”

The president emphasized that George had become famous lately for his political opinions rather than his ability as an actor. He noted that the couple made the move right in the middle of a major crime problem because of America’s abysmal way of handling immigration, especially under Biden’s regime.

George responded to everything the president had to say with a promise to make America great again, starting by November 2026. In November, the United States of America will hold its midterm general elections, where the results will determine which party controls Congress, thus impacting Trump’s ability to pass legislation for the remaining two years of his term.

The Oscar winner attended the Golden Globes awards on January 11, 2026, to present the Best Picture award alongside his co-star Don Cheadle at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. George was also nominated for the Best Actor in a Motion Picture category for his performance in “Jay Kelly.”

As he stepped on stage to perform his duty for the night, the newly minted French citizen decided to greet his audience in French. The Blast shared that he began with: “Bonsoir, mes amis,” which means “Good evening, my friends,” and followed up with “C’est un honneur d’être ici” (“It’s an honor to be here”).

Although George’s citizenship status was officially granted in 2025, the actor, his wife, and their twins had primarily lived in France at the Domaine du Canadel, an 18th-century vineyard in Brignoles, Provence. The actor had shared that his reason for leaving with his family was rooted in protecting his children’s privacy and making sure they live far away from the culture of Hollywood.

Other members of George’s family, especially his wife, were not exempt from immigration problems months before they secured their French citizenship. Amal, who tied the knot with the actor in September 2014 at the Aman Canal Grande luxury resort in Venice, was at risk of facing travel limitations in the United States.

Trump had reportedly backed a plan to target some British lawyers connected to the International Criminal Court’s war crimes investigation involving Israeli officials. In 2024, Amal served on a panel of experts that advised the ICC prosecutor to seek arrest warrants for Israeli and Hamas leaders for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

As analyzed by an international law expert, Alexandro Maria Tirelli at the time, Amal, a U.K. citizen, could be affected if sanctions were expanded to include more British attorneys. Tirelli continued that such measures, if enforced, could affect the actor’s wife’s ability to gain entry into the United States, despite her rich ties to the country by marriage and by profession.

According to experts, Hollywood has recorded a worrisome exodus of celebrities to other countries due to the deeply political undertones in the industry, making the environment very intense. Sources noted that every move from celebrities has been subjected to serious scrutiny through the lens of politics and culture war.

As for George and his family’s choice of France, sources stated that the country has a special pull for creatives and celebrities, especially cities like Paris and the South of France, due to its impressive aesthetics, food, culture, and history.

The lifestyle advantages the country reportedly offers are second to none, making it one of the top choices for the celebrities of Hollywood. “But the biggest factor is privacy. In many parts of France, even major stars can live relatively normal lives compared to Los Angeles. There’s also a long tradition of creatives gravitating there,” cultural commentator Jonathan Alpert declared.

One thing is for sure: George Clooney will not let Donald Trump have his cake and eat it, too!
