The promotions for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” continue, with Meryl Streep and Anna Wintour making fans see double!

The Hollywood veteran won the hearts of many, including the renowned fashion guru, when she starred in the first movie. Wintour inspired her character, a cold editor-in-chief named Miranda Priestly.

Although the 2006 “TDWP” movie was a hit, Meryl Streep recently revealed in a joint interview with Anna Wintour that many in the fashion industry chose not to support the project out of fear.

Streep and Wintour gave off the same energy in their stunning new cover, decked in Prada ensembles and matching dark sunglasses, Wintour’s signature look. “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig, who directed Streep’s 2019 “Little Women,” took on the interviewer role.

When Gerwig asked if Streep’s character in “TDWP 2” had changed in terms of her style, the renowned actress confirmed there had been significant changes to her wardrobe. She explained that these changes were important because they showcased how the fashion industry’s perception of the movie had evolved.

“Well, everybody was afraid of Anna on the first one, so we couldn’t find any clothes. Nobody would give us any clothes,” Streep revealed in her joint cover for Vogue. She shared that her character had become “less worried about what anybody thinks” in the sequel, and it was evident in her wardrobe choices.

Although Streep gave a phenomenal performance as a character inspired by Wintour, neither she nor the former Vogue editor-in-chief believes they could swap places. When Gerwig asked them what they would do in each other’s shoes, Wintour shut down the thought.

The media executive stressed that her talents lay in the fashion and publishing industry, admitting that she had “absolutely no gifts at all.” Wintour claimed she could not sing, act, cook, or even sew, subtly complimenting Streep’s multiple talents.

Streep echoed similar sentiments about being lost at Wintour’s job, noting she would “dread the shoes” she walked in as the boss of a multinational corporation. Nonetheless, the actress believed it would feel amazing working with young people and “creating something that makes people happy.”

During the joint interview, Wintour opened up about what she liked about the first “TDWP” movie. She noted that she was impressed by how the 2006 film “showed the world what a huge business fashion is.”

She described the fashion industry as “a true economic force globally,” stating that there have been many changes, but they were “evolving rather than disintegrating.” Wintour also revealed that she called Streep after hearing rumors of a sequel.

Wintour recalled that Streep hadn’t read the script when she called, but the actress promised to fill her in when she did. “She called me back and said, ‘Anna, I think it’s going to be all right,'” the fashion guru added. The duo’s joint cover marked another unique promotion for “TDWP 2.”

Wintour and Streep’s cover story was published a day after the latter turned heads at a fan event in Tokyo. Harper’s Bazaar covered the story, reporting that Streep had matched the blood-red stilettos from the first movie’s poster in a unique Chanel set.

She rocked the skirt set from the brand’s Chanel Métiers d’Art Pre-Fall 2026 collection, designed by Matthieu Blazy. The outfit featured a vermillion coat and a matching skirt, with both hems decorated with fringes.

The coat and skirt offered boldness and class with graphic white splotches that looked like cracks on the red fabric. Streep completed the chic look with Chanel accessories, including a leather quilted oval clutch, large square sunglasses, and a pair of white heels with black pointed toes.

Although Streep’s character in “TDWP” was inspired by Wintour, she did not mirror the latter’s personality when bringing the icy editor-in-chief to life. Earlier this month, Streep appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” to set the record straight.

The Hollywood veteran explained that she drew inspiration from two icons, Mike Nichols and Clint Eastwood, rather than Wintour. She believed Miranda would be the outcome if Nichols and Eastwood had a baby, and focused on portraying her character in that light.

Streep added that she had yet to tell Eastwood about imitating him for the movie, but Nichols was aware and loved it. Her method certainly worked, with the success of the first movie spilling over to its sequel. The Blast shared in February that the trailer for “TDWP 2” had become 20th Century Studios’ most-viewed trailer within 24 hours.

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is set to hit theatres in May.
