Social media star Veronica Perasso is opening up about leaving Venezuela, her new life in Puerto Rico, and the real person behind the viral persona. She’s generated billions of impressions online, appeared in music videos, magazines, and TV documentaries, and yet, Veronica Perasso wants you to know you probably don’t know her at all. The model and content creator, who has built one of the most recognizable presences on social media, is pulling back the curtain on who she actually is. And the real story is a lot more layered than the feed lets on.

Veronica Perasso Says ‘I Am Not A Model’

Veronica Perasso is shutting down assumptions about her identity, making it clear that the image fans know is just a role.

“I am not a model,” she said, point-blank. “Modeling is something I do or have done, yes. But the content you see, and even the name Veronica Perasso, is part of a character. That is all based on a role I play, but that is not me.”

In other words, the version of Veronica Perasso that millions follow isn’t the full picture.

Perasso Says Miami Will ‘Eat You Alive’ Without Street Smarts

Veronica Perasso was born in Venezuela and left Caracas in 2016 during one of the country’s most dangerous periods. She relocated to the U.S. with the hope of building a better life, landing first in Miami, an experience she describes as both overwhelming and eye-opening.

“The need to be ‘perfect’ in Miami is overwhelming,” she said. “Fitting in requires status, money, connections, beauty, and if you don’t have street-smarts, you will get eaten alive.”

She eventually made her way through North Carolina, South Carolina, Arizona, and Texas before finding what she calls home: Puerto Rico.

Veronica Perasso Says She Was ‘Shy’ And ‘Picked On’ Growing Up

Before the magazine covers and millions of followers, Veronica Perasso describes herself as the girl who flew completely under the radar.

“Growing up, I wasn’t the fun or adventurous type,” she said. “I was the shy, awkward girl that got picked on. I didn’t play sports; I played the violin. I never had more than one friend at a time, and I didn’t get invited to parties.”

She never predicted any of this. By 2026, her image had racked up billions of global impressions, and she still isn’t sure how it happened. “Some days I wake up and think retrocausality must be real,” she admitted, not the quote you’d expect from someone you might write off as just a model.

Perasso Trades Miami Scene For Surfing In Puerto Rico

Perasso’s current chapter is about as far from the Miami social scene as you can get. A few years ago, she picked up surfing, and says the moment she stood on a board for the first time, she was done.

The sport took her to Hawaii before she ultimately settled in Rincón, Puerto Rico, a well-known surf destination on the island’s west coast. She credits the warmth of the people and the island’s culture, familiar to her given her Venezuelan roots, for making it feel like home.

But the real obsession? Coffee. Perasso has spent the last 18 months deep in the world of farm-to-cup coffee production, going so far as to attend barista school. “Those who have tried my coffee say it’s some of, if not the best, they’ve ever had,” she said, and based on the level of detail she goes into about the process, it’s hard to doubt her.

Veronica Perasso Says The Real Story Is ‘More Interesting’

Perasso described herself in a way that’s equal parts grounded and self-aware: a surf-obsessed coffee fanatic who loves cats, avoids cold weather, models for work but picks up trash for free, hikes, cooks, prays, and eats plantains.

“Scientifically, I’m energy. Spiritually, I’m a child of God. Emotionally, I am love. Ethnically, I am Latina,” she said. “And that’s a glimpse into who I believe Veronica is.”

The public persona may have been the thing that opened the door, but the woman behind it is clearly the more interesting story.
