Aaron Carter‘s mom has gotten no joy from her legal battle over the late singer’s estate.
Jane Carter fostered a rocky relationship with her kids, especially the late rapper, who even sought to be legally estranged from his parents at a tender age. During his lifetime, the rapper was in an on-and-off relationship with former fiancée Melanie Martin, and the pair welcomed a son, Prince Lyric Carter, about a year before his death.

Aaron Carter’s Mom’s Legal Quest Shut Down

Aaron left behind some property, and his mom, Jane, took up a battle with his former lover over his estate. The court has now shut down the case, and a Los Angeles County Superior Judge has ruled in Martin’s favor. The judge denied the late singer’s mom’s effort to block the estate from closing, determining that Aaron’s debts and liabilities are greater than his assets.
The superior court judge then ruled that the non-cash assets of the estate be distributed to Aaron’s former fiancée. Jane claimed that the trustee in charge of her late son’s properties had undervalued his royalties and also accused Martin of making illegal withdrawals from the late singer’s accounts. According to court documents, Jane alleged that her son’s lover had withdrawn a total of $24,530 illegally from his accounts.
As regards the trust fund set up for the former couple’s son, Prince, Jane asked the court that Martin not be named as trustee of her grandson’s trust. She, however, clarified that she believes Martin to be a good mother and, as shared by TMZ, admitted to having played a role in the friction between them. The late singer’s mom also maintained that she did not ignite the case based on intentions to bring any “legal harm” to Martin.
The Late Singer Had Money Issues With His Mother Early In Life

Aaron rose to fame quickly as a singer and began to make a name for himself in the industry in the late 90s and early 2000s. When his parents split in 2004, their divorce battle featured a fight over who would have custody of the then-teenage Aaron. TODAY reported that the late rapper’s brother, Nick, who is popularly known for his vocals in the music group “Backstreet Boys,” gave insight into the brawl between his parents and brother.
In his book, “Facing the Music and Living to Talk About It,” Nick detailed that Aaron made his first record at the age of then and by the time his parents were divorcing, he had become a millionaire from his albums and concert tours. The Carter siblings had their parents as their managers as youngstars but because of the way Jane was managing Aaron’s earnings, he filed a petition for legal emancipation.
At the time, the late singer claimed that his mother took over $100,000 from him without his permission. Aaron dropped the petition shortly before his parents’ divorce was finalized. Their family lawyer, Scott Salomon, released a statement stating, “All financial misunderstandings have been resolved between Aaron and his parents,” and the young rapper went to live with his father, Robert.
Finances Have Been A Long-Time Issue In The Carter Household

Robert and Jane Carter welcomed five kids over the course of their marriage. Aaron’s twin sister, Angel, disclosed that their parents were big party people. “I remember my parents were always drinking, always partying, lots of drugs out on the boats,” she recalled. She also shared that while they often struggled with finances, their fights over money escalated as her brothers became iconic industry stars.
Robert and Jane reportedly placed priority on control of their kids’ funds instead of the bonding experience and being present for their children. Nick concurred, recounting a time when he won $150 in a talent show at age eight. He explained how he handed the money over to his father with overwhelming joy and eagerness as Robert ranted about the expenses of raising five kids to his young son.
At the time, the “Backstreet Boys” vocalist felt that he earned a form of validation by giving money to his parents. “Like they acknowledged me! And I was just so happy that night because I realized not only am I getting attention from my parents, but I felt like money was going to be the solution to the problem,” he shared in “The Carters” documentary series.
The ‘Oh Aaron’ Hitmaker Left His Estate In Financial Disarray

Two years after the singer’s demise, his property administrator revealed that he left so much debt behind that his estate is incapable of sorting out the unpaid expenses. The Blast covered the story, sharing that Aaron’s estate is insolvent and he passed on without a will in place. The estate administrator also revealed that the State of California had filed a creditor’s claim of $77,312 against Aaron’s estate after she informed the IRS and the State of California Franchise Tax Board of his death.
According to the IRS, the late singer had debt lingering from years back. He owed $26,116 for 2018 and $118,000 for 2021. The admin claimed that from the assets her client left behind, she was able to pay some debts and bills amounting to a grand total of $810,547, but that was not all, and he was already bankrupt. A company alleged the vocalist owed them $19,000, which the estate admin refused to pay for lack of funds.
Aaron and his baby mama were also dragged into a lawsuit for owing payment for “labor, equipment, services, and/or materials.” The biohazardous remediation company, Sterile Pros LLC, claimed the former couple owed $33,598.70 and also demanded settlement for the biohazardous remediation of three bedrooms, the main bathroom, and a closet in their Lanchester home.
Aaron Carter’s Death Sparked Rumors About His Son’s Paternity

Aaron’s death set tongues wagging with speculation that Prince was not biologically his. Many accused Martin of paternity fraud, and according to the media personality took it further to the point of “death threats.”
Martin rubbed the claims off her shoulder for years, but decided to set the record straight in 2024 when she shared the results of a DNA test taken by her, Prince, and her late fiancé’s twin sister, Angel. The Blast noted that the media personality stressed that she had to clear the air of the baseless accusations that had become widespread about her and her son once and for all.
Her decision stemmed from the understanding that although she had kept Prince in the dark about the raging whispers, he may hear about it from other sources as he grows more aware of the real world. “I hope that the hate and baseless rumors suggesting otherwise will now cease,” she remarked as she shared the positive DNA results.
Will Aaron Carter’s mom accept her loss in this case in good faith?
