A day before returning to work, The Blast reported that Savannah had reflected on the difficult time in her life on Easter Sunday. She shared her pain in a recorded message for Good Shepherd New York’s digital service.

Savannah began by addressing the importance of Easter, describing it as “flowers and pastels and baby bunnies.” She noted that it was about “sunshine and joy and hope,” as well as “rebirth and second chances and new life and fresh starts.”

However, what should have been a joyous occasion was a challenging period for her family amid her mother’s disappearance. “When life itself seems far harder than death. These moments of deep disappointment with God, the feeling of utter abandonment,” Savannah lamented.

Savannah explained that it had been difficult navigating life without Nancy, labeling her mother’s disappearance her “own season of trial.” She admitted that the heartbreaking situation tested her faith in God, leaving her feeling “bitter” and confused.

The TV personality wondered if Jesus had experienced the type of pain she felt amid Nancy’s disappearance, arguing that it wasn’t wrong to feel the way she did. Savannah believed that “wrestling with God” was an opportunity for revelation.

Although she battled negative feelings, Savannah stressed that her faith in God remained as strong as ever. She was hopeful that God would “redeem this pain” and improve her family’s circumstances. The message came weeks after she sat down for a candid interview.

Last month, The Blast shared that Savannah had confirmed her return to the “Today” show in an interview with Hoda Kotb. The scheduled date was April 6, with Savannah explaining that she wouldn’t let the person responsible for her mother’s disappearance kill her spirit.

“I will do it for my kids,” she told Kotb, referencing her daughter Vale and son Charles. “I will not let whoever did this take my children’s mom away,” Savannah added, noting that she got her strength from Nancy, whom she watched survive her father’s passing.

According to Savannah, Nancy taught all of her children to be strong amid challenges, and she vowed to keep the tradition going for her own kids. Savannah’s colleagues celebrated the news of her return to work, with Craig Melvin applauding her for not letting “sadness win.”

Besides dealing with the pain of her mother’s disappearance, Savannah reportedly had a hard time following the speculated involvement of her brother-in-law in the case. The Blast covered the story in March, reporting that sources had weighed in on the broadcast journalist’s feelings.

The drama began when reporter Ashleigh Banfield named Savannah’s brother-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, as a “prime suspect” in the disappearance case. At the time, Banfield cited anonymous law enforcement sources for her claims.

Insiders alleged that Savannah did not appreciate Banfield’s speculations, claiming she believed the “line between reporting and causing harm” had been crossed. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos also shut down the rumors, stressing that all members of the Guthrie family were victims and not suspects.
