Lizzo recently flaunted her “jury duty fit” on Instagram, but she was excused as a juror in a recent case due to her stance regarding ICE.

The pop star was being considered for the case of a person who was charged with a felony count of assault on a federal officer, causing bodily injury.

The recent development comes amid Lizzo’s weight loss journey and revelation that she has been sober for two months, marking a major milestone for her.

Although Lizzo happily showed off her court outfit to her millions of followers on Instagram, reports show the singer was unable to perform her jury duties after being excused due to her anti-ICE views.

The case involved an individual, Luis Dalhet Hipolito, who had allegedly assaulted a federal immigration enforcement agent.

Prosecutors argued that Hipolitio attacked an ICE agent by hitting him in the face during an immigration enforcement action in Los Angeles in June, 2020.

His actions allegedly caused the agent’s glasses to break, along with a cut to the face. However, on Wednesday, Hipolito was cleared of the charges.

As for Lizzo, a spokesman for the US Attorney’s Office shared with the New York Post that the singer admitted to prosecutors she could be “neither fair nor impartial” hearing the trial of a man accused of physically assaulting an ICE agent.

The Singer Is An Outspoken Critic Of ICE

Lizzo, born Melissa Viviane Jefferson, is a known critic of ICE, as she has made her stance on the issue clear on multiple occasions, especially through her social media commentary.

Back in January, she shared a video online, expressing how disheartened she was over the incidents in Minneapolis involving protesters and law enforcement agents.

At the time, she said, tearfully, “My heart goes out to Minneapolis.”

“In the years that I lived there, whether it was Philando Castile, whether it was Jamar Clark, whether it was George Floyd, this seems to happen — the injustice happens there,” Lizzo continued. “If I find more ways to help, I will be sharing them.”

In another post on Instagram, the singer said, “I will always stand with the people of Minneapolis #abolishice.”

Lizzo recently revealed that she has been alcohol-free for the past two months. The 37-year-old singer revealed the update in an Instagram Story, while reposting a funny TikTok about her behavior when drunk, adding the caption, “2 months no alcohol.”

The decision is part of what she’s described as her ongoing “weight release journey,” which began in late 2023.

Since then, the singer has made a number of lifestyle changes. These include “training 3x a week, daily sauna & cardio” sessions, and a more structured diet.

She has also cut back on sugary drinks and snacks while reintroducing more balanced meals with the help of a chef.

In earlier interviews, Lizzo explained that her approach has been intentional and gradual, emphasizing that her body has been changing over time, even if not everyone noticed right away.

In a recent appearance on the “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast, Lizzo also reflected on her personal life, describing herself as a “late bloomer” when it came to relationships.

She explained that she intentionally delayed intimacy, wanting to reach certain milestones, like winning a Grammy, before taking that step.

The “Truth Hurts” singer admitted she once felt pressure to fit in with friends and wasn’t fully honest about her experiences at the time.

Now, she says she feels more comfortable being open. She revealed that she lost her virginity a few years ago, sometime after earning her first Grammy in 2020, and described finally sharing the truth as a huge relief after years of keeping it private. “I feel a weight off of my chest right now,” she said.

She also recalled an earlier moment when her friends questioned her about it, leading to an awkward attempt to deflect.

“It was so embarrassing. I was in a friend group of girls. We were all girling one night, and it was like, “Wait, Lizzo, are you a virgin?” she recalled.

Lizzo added, “I remember it was so embarrassing. I said, ‘I love the D.’ I said that. And it held me over for a little while.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Lizzo spoke candidly about her first kiss, which didn’t happen until she was 21, and didn’t go as she had hoped.

According to her, her upbringing played a big role. As a teenager in church, she and her peers made a commitment to abstain from anything romantic before marriage, which made her feel anxious and hesitant about intimacy.

When the moment finally came on New Year’s Eve, it didn’t go as she’d hoped. “It was a New Year’s Eve thing, and he forced it on me,” she recalled. “I was really mad, and I was like, ‘My first kiss is ruined.’ I was so mad.”

Today, things look very different for the singer. She’s been in a relationship with Myke Wright since going public in 2022, though the two have known each other since 2016, when they worked together as co-hosts on MTV’s “Wonderland.”

While they tend to keep their relationship private, Lizzo previously spoke about her feelings during an interview on “The Howard Stern Show,” where she said: “I am very much in love with Myke. 100 percent. There’s nobody else I’m going to be with for the rest of my life.”
