Josh Duhamel is making it clear that he’s not here to talk politics. The “Ransom Canyon” star is opening up about why he chooses to keep his political views private, even in a time when many celebrities are speaking out more than ever. For Josh Duhamel, the decision comes down to one simple thing.

While appearing on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Duhamel admitted he does have strong opinions, but chooses not to share them publicly.

“I have real strong opinions about things but I don’t really talk about them,” he said. “Why would I alienate half my audience? Because I respect their views on things but I’m not going to preach to them. They can believe what they want.”

Instead, Duhamel says his focus is elsewhere. “I’m just here to make cool stuff,” Duhamel added.

Josh Duhamel Calls It A Smart Move For Success In Hollywood

Duhamel didn’t just frame his decision as personal, but it’s also strategic. He suggested that more actors should consider staying out of political conversations if they want to maintain a broad appeal.

“It makes perfect sense,” he added. “If you really want to be a success in this business, why would you make half of your audience despise you by your political beliefs? Maybe they don’t care? I don’t know. I look at it like a business decision.”

The actor even compared his role in Hollywood to that of an entertainer whose job isn’t to lecture audiences. “If I want to preach to you about what I believe politically, I’ll go run for office, which I’m not going to do, by the way.”

He also shared that spending time in the Midwest has shaped his perspective, noting that people are often very direct about their feelings toward celebrities speaking out.

Hollywood Remains Divided As Celebrities Speak Out

Duhamel’s comments come at a time when many celebrities are doing the exact opposite, using their platforms to speak out on major political issues. Josh Gad recently addressed the topic during the 2024 election cycle, explaining why stars often feel compelled to get involved despite the risks.

“Let’s get something completely straight. No celebrity in their right mind wants to get involved with politics,” the actor said. “All it does is alienate fans, create unwanted attention, and potentially cost us business.”

Gad went on to say, “Therefore, take a second and understand how insanely concerned we must all be to be to come out and actively tell you on an hourly basis how truly consequential this election is, and how Donald Trump must be stopped at all costs.”

Mark Ruffalo Says He Hasn’t Ruled Out Politics

Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo also weighed in on the intersection of entertainment and politics, hinting that he hasn’t ruled out a future in public service. “It isn’t on my game card right now, but who knows,” he said of the possibility of dipping his toes into the political world. “I mean, you never say never.”

He continued, “I mean, I spent a lot of time in that world, and acting, it’s for the people. So, I love the people, and politicians could be doing something good for the people.”

The conversation around celebrity voices in politics has also intensified following a public clash between Rosie O’Donnell and Donald Trump. After Trump suggested on Truth Social that he was considering revoking her citizenship, O’Donnell fired back in a series of social media posts, making her stance clear.

“The president of the usa has always hated the fact that i see him for who he is – a criminal con man sexual abusing liar out to harm our nation to serve himself – this is why i moved to ireland – he is a dangerous old soulless man with dementia who lacks empathy compassion and basic humanity- i stand in direct opposition all he represents- so do millions of others – u gonna deport all who stand against ur evil tendencies – ur a bad joke who cant form a coherent sentence #nevertrump”

With celebrities continuing to take different approaches, some staying silent, others speaking out louder than ever, it’s clear the debate over Hollywood and politics isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
