The singer’s son with the late Sonny Bono tied the knot with the love of his life last weekend, a few days after his brother was arrested for trespassing, and Cher is reportedly not pleased about the development.
Cher’s son, Chaz Bono, was born in 1959 to the famous singer and gained popularity in the media due to his appearances as a child on his parents’ television show, “The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour.”
Cher’s Son And His Soulmate Met As Teenagers Decades Ago
The marriage ceremony between Chaz and Shara Blue Mathes took place at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 8. The dress code for the ceremony was tagged “Hollywood Glam Formal” as slated on their wedding website.
Chaz spoke about their first meeting, sharing that they met as teenagers at Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute more than 40 years ago, and they continued being friends till they made their romance official in January 2017. The singer’s son raved to PEOPLE that it feels great for him as a groom to end up with the very first girl he ever kissed.
The groom expressed that Shara makes him feel complete knowing she will always be there beside me as his partner, my best friend, and the love of his life. According to him, “No matter what life brings us, we will always be safer and stronger together … and we are home.”
The Couple And The Pop Icon Share A Close Bond
The “Goddess of Pop” was front row at the wedding ceremony, looking on as a proud mom and a close ally of the couple. Chaz and Shara showed up in support of the singer at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, California, last December.
At the event, she discussed her book “Cher: The Memoir, Part 1.” They stepped out together as a trio in October 2024 to attend the red carpet at the Beyond Fest premiere of “Little Bites,” a horror movie executive-produced by Cher and Chaz. The singer has also been very supportive of Chaz over the years and has spoken very loudly of her admiration for his courage and journey.
The iconic singer declared how awed by him she was after screening his 2011 documentary “Becoming Chaz,” praising him for getting the courage to share his personal journey. Cher and Edwards have been dating since 2022, and she showed up at the venue in a casual star-patterned sweatsuit and sneakers. The actress received several clapbacks over the wide age gap between her and Edwards when the relationship became public. She clarified in a later interview that age was just a number and they get along great due to Edward’s amazing qualities.
In her words to a news outlet in 2023, Cher said, “If you wrote out all the statistics, you would go, ‘Well, this is doomed.’ But we’ve been together a year, and if it were just a year, it would’ve been worth it. I’ve had the best time.” The singer continued that Edwards remained very special to her because he makes her laugh and they have so much fun together.
Cher Reportedly Feels Heartbroken Over Her Other Son
The singer may not have been able to thoroughly enjoy the warm feeling of becoming a new mom-in-law, as her son, Elijah Blue Allman, was arrested at a highbrow boarding school in New Hampshire. As noted by AOL, the star was reported to be struggling with the fallout from the arrest, behind the scenes. Cher’s son reportedly gained access to the property as an unwanted guest. He was charged with assault, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct after he confronted students and staff on the premises.
He was also arrested much later at Windham on burglary, criminal mischief, and breach of bail charges. Elijah is now being held at the Rockingham County Jail after he was arraigned on charges of burglary and placed in preventive detention. Sources close to Cher claimed that the incident left her very shaken, and the situation was very painful for her, as she has constantly worried about her son’s struggles.
She is reportedly very mortified by what has happened and very upset to see her son back in legal trouble after spending several years trying to set him straight and make him a better person. “For Cher, this is not just embarrassing; it is heartbreaking. She loves Elijah enormously, but she also knows how serious his struggles have been over the years, so hearing about another arrest is devastating,” a source noted.
Cher’s Son’s Conservatorship Drama
Aside from the incessant arrests, Elijah has also sparked concerns in his family for his request for drug abuse, which nearly claimed his life in June 2025. As stated by The Blast, Cher was left devastated by the incident, and in her earlier bid to help bring Elijah to normalcy, she had filed in court to bring him under care in 2023.
In the application for immediate conservatorship, Cher cited her son’s substance abuse problems. Unfortunately, she lost the case as a judge dismissed it in 2024 after Elijah fought against it. Elijah stated that while his mother’s help came from a place of concern for his health and well-being, he did not need her unsolicited help.
